If you can use a little good news...

Let's dance!

With seemingly every day bringing more bad news concerning Democrat's (and democracy's) chances in the 2022 election, it's my pleasure to bring you a little good news:  in this past week's special election in New Mexico's first district, Democrat Melanie Stansbury won to keep the U.S. House seat vacated by Interior Secretary Deb Haaland.

Now this was a seat Democrats were expected to win, but in preparation for their bid to win back the U.S. House in 2022, republicans attempted to feature their key issue in the 2022 elections, that being with Democrats fealty to defunding the police we would be vulnerable to claims we were weak on crime.  Republicans did not expect to win, but in a district that Haaland won reelection by 16 points and Joe Biden won by 23 points in 2020, they were hoping their playbook would significantly cut into the 2020 victory margins--maybe even keep it to single digits.

While it's far, far too small a sample size to extrapolate much concerning the 2022 election, it certainly shows that a) republicans might need a bit more than "Democrats are soft on crime," and, b) that our voters still seem to have motivation to turn out.  Perhaps the thought of four more years of Donald Trump may work its magic yet again?

All in all, coming out of the election in NM-01 I'd much rather be in Democratic shoes than republican shoes.

It Was an Insurrection--the Blood of Those Killed on January 6th Is on Republican Hands

Peace,
