Hearing republicans invoke slavery (as an example of the worst excess of majority rule) as a reason that the filibuster should continue as a procedure in the Senate is laughable, considering that 90% of republicans today would be thrilled if that execrable stain on American history were restored.
Ever since Nixon formulated the Southern strategy the republican party has been the party that encourages and celebrates racists and for them to invoke a horrendous institution they tacitly embrace as an endorsement of the racist filibuster is an embarrassment of stupidity.
