Just say no

A recent Gallup Survey shows that Americans with full-time jobs are working an average of 47 hours a week--and as the linked article notes, with no uptick in either productivity or worker happiness.

What this means, in effect, is that millions of us (especially since so few of us are eligible for overtime pay anymore) give our employers seven precious hours of our lives each and every week for absolutely nothing.

One supposes this has more than a little to do with the fear of losing our jobs, and to a lesser degree with employer intimidation, but it is another sad commentary on what has become of the American dream.  While I am sure there are those who put in such time for the greater good (doctors, public servants), when we reach a point where we give away our time to do nothing more than make already rich men and women even richer, it becomes little more than slave labor.

And it just isn't worth it.

Peace,
emaycee
