In a recent post, Digby bemoaned (rightfully) congressional Democrats impotence in the face of republican obstruction when it comes to passing a voting rights bill, correctly asserting that the Democrats plan to counter said obstruction with a bunch of speeches highlighting the dangers to our democracy by not passing a voting rights bill will be pitifully lame.
At the end, though, she posits that republicans "...couldn't have dreamed Democrats would go down so easily."
Through all my years of following political blogs, Digby would easily be the most astute, prescient, and talented political blogger I've ever read, but I think she missed one here: my guess is, as feebly as Democrats capitulated over the Supreme Court nominations of Merrick Garland and Amy Coney Barrett, republicans were fully expecting Democrats to whine their way to oblivion.
We may very well need a miracle to save the United States of America as we know it.
