This is a headline from an op-ed in The Washington Post written by the American Enterprise Institute's Michael R. Strain:
"END OBAMACARE, AND PEOPLE COULD DIE. THAT'S OKAY."
It's often said by many on the left who are frustrated with the center tilt of the Democratic Party that there's no difference between Democrats and republicans. This is proof positive that there is a huge difference. There is no Liberal think tank and no member of the Democratic Party that would ever make the argument that it's okay for Americans to die due to a lack of healthcare. And we would never use such infantile reasoning for any argument, let alone one advocating for the death of innocent Americans.
Frankly, this is rich asshole talk, and it clearly shows the devolution of America's traditional media. One seriously has to wonder what in the fuck The Washington Post was even thinking publishing such trite bullshit.

At least he takes the Republican/Libertarian ideology to its logical conclusion. I mean, I've always wanted to have an honest debate, and this guy is helping that. To me, it's unacceptable to let people die because money. Or hatred of government. Or fear of Socialism.
ReplyDeleteBut it's not unacceptable for some folks, at least that's what the belief they cling to should lead them. For example, say we end Obamacare. Then, because big government/Socialism is bad, we cannot subsidize emergency care. This, literally means people will not get necessary care sometimes. The only conclusion one can reach is that people will die. So if you believe we need to cut Obamacare because of government spending, then you also have to believe we cannot subsidize emergency care because that's more expensive and less effective.
Republican/Libertarian belief in small government is either a lie, or it accepts that people will have to die due to its policies. This guy's beliefs are appalling to me, but at least he's honest. I'd truly like to see a debate where the conservative person takes this position. I think it'd be good for liberals, but probably not as good as we'd like to think. I don't think that position is as rare as we'd hope. But I'd love to find out.
