Beware any sport that old white men play

Apparently worried that Donald Trump hadn't locked up the old, rich, racist, white guy vote (he certainly has), golfing great Jack Nicklaus today tweeted his support for Trump using the tired old "Democrats are socialists" trope, proving that being an excellent golfer doesn't necessarily give anyone the good sense that God gave a goat (see also, Mickelson, Phil, and Woods, Tiger).

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not much of a golf fan and only know what I know about Nicklaus through watching sports news, but I'm not really sure what Nicklaus hoped to accomplish with his tweet.  It has been more than a generation since Nicklaus was at the height of his game, and my guess is the vast majority of people under the age of fifty have no idea who he is and couldn't care less about his outdated political thoughts.  His tweet will likely win Trump zero votes he wasn't already getting.

But what he has done is destroyed his reputation among many of the people who do remember his golf heroics, by tweeting that he thinks it's fine and dandy to be a racist, misogynist, homophobe, and an unrepentant liar, as well as killing over two hundred thousand Americans with complete incompetence and a psychopathic inability to care about them because socialism.

He's more than welcome to use his standing to voice his opinion...just as those of us who aren't old, rich white racists can look upon his opinion with scorn and watch it forever tarnish whatever triumphs he garnered in the history of golf.
