Turnin back the pages to the times I love best

Canada's finest, and one of the greats

Unfortunately, it seems anymore that my only written posts--aside from Friday Night Jukebox--seem to be when musicians I have admired pass away.  Today is no different, as I woke this morning to the news that Canadian troubadour Gordon Lightfoot had passed away on Monday.  I've written about two of Lightfoot's songs on FNJ  (Vol. LVIII and Vol. CCCXXVI), and wouldn't be surprised (if I should live long enough) to see a couple more before the Jukebox saga ends.

Oddly enough, a couple weeks back as I was looking for something new to play in the car while I am driving, I came across his greatest hits album Gord's Gold, and have been listening to it ever since.  Needless to say, today's listening was a little bittersweet.  Still ever so thankful for the chance to enjoy his immense talent, and especially for the grace that comes with aging that allowed me to enjoy his work all the more the older I got.

Over the past couple of weeks his song "Circle of Steel" (which I'd kind of half listened to in years past) has really become a favorite of mine, so I'd like to feature it today.

Godspeed, Mr. Lightfoot, and may you rest in peace.

Enjoy:
