This adulation isn't new

Charlatans U.S.A.

I got my hair cut at a particular salon for a number of years after I moved to Detroit, and every time I was there getting my hair cut (about every three to four months), one of the barbers would be telling one of the patrons about how Ronald Reagan had said, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" (referring to the Berlin Wall).  It didn't matter that it was two years after Reagan's speech that the Berlin Wall actually came down, that it came down because of the former Soviet Union's ineptitude, and that Reagan had no role whatsoever in its demise.  It didn't matter the immeasurable damage Reagan had done to the poor and the middle class, his racist stereotyping of people of color, or that thousands of gay Americans died because he ignored the AIDS crisis.  As far as the barber was concerned, Reagan said it and the Wall miraculously came down the next day.

I note this because I remembered it the other day (even though I had stopped going to the salon after Russia installed Trump as President because I could no longer stomach the hair cutters' politics) as I was shaking my fucking head about the utterly bizarre adoration republicans have for Donald Trump.  A serial sexual assaulter who failed miserably at business, killed hundreds of thousands of Americans with his mishandling of the COVID-19 crisis, destroyed the American economy, whose kowtowing to American enemy Vladimir Putin led to a war in which thousands of innocent Ukrainians have been killed, tried a coup to overturn an election he lost badly, already seen as one of the worst U.S. Presidents in history...you get the point.

In short, republicans have long been susceptible to second rate entertainment celebrities who are abjectly stupid, who feed them racist dog whistles and spout fatuous banalities about a Christianity they neither embody nor know anything about, whose cruelty is surpassed only by their utter lack of compassion, because other than being second rate entertainment celebrities, that's who your republican voters are.  A bunch of hateful, spiteful bigots with as much Christian authority as Charles Manson, whose loyalty lies not with Americans, but with their fellow fascists.

And what scares me the most is that Ron DeSantis might make both Reagan and and Trump look like rank amateurs.

Republican = Traitor

Peace,
emaycee
