Put the needle to the record

Just say no...thank you

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, we had some shocking news coming out of Washington today.  In the interest of "bipartisanship," ten "moderate" republican senators have come up with a relief bill that just happens to be one-third of the size of Joe Biden's...and will do nothing to stem the economic disaster that republicans helped fester in the wake of the pandemic.

Needless to say--even though the flaccid ten haven't released any details, the mainstream media is falling all over itself proclaiming what a conundrum this must be for Joe Biden, who must decide if he wants unity with ten senators who voted to give billionaires $1.8 billion in tax cuts but can't see fit to spend $1.9 billion on the ninety percent of Americans who desperately need the help.

Fortunately, it seems that Democrats have already seen this clown show and are putting an immediate kibosh on it--sometimes the best three words in doing what's best for America and not kowtowing to The New York Times gotcha journalism is "go fuck yourselves."

And that goes double for the mainstream media.

This close

Our economy, thanks to Donald Trump

On Friday the Labor Department announced that the U.S. economy had lost 140,000 jobs during the month of December.  It's a number that isn't likely to get much better over the coming months until the coronavirus vaccine has had time to do its job.

I note this because it's obvious our economy is going to need more stimulus over the next few months, which would be next to impossible had Ralph Warnock and Jon Ossoff not won their runoff elections in Georgia last week.  The republican party has shown again and again that the livelihoods of ordinary Americans are secondary to their need to keep a grip on power, and had we lost those elections, God only knows how far they would have been happy to let the economy fall in an attempt to make President Biden look bad.

In light of the attempted coup last week, it's easy to forget about how important winning a majority in the U.S. Senate was.  It's highly likely that the Democratic Party saved our republic not just once, but twice last week--and three times now in the past two months.

Contrary to what the right wing nutjobs who stormed the capitol building last week think, we are the true patriots.

It all belongs to Mitch

There's an election in two years...

In all likelihood, we are just a month or two away from the nation's economy sliding into an abyss that some economists think may last a decade.  Mitch McConnell keeps playing games with America's economic health, demanding that a liability shield protecting bad corporations (like Tyson) from COVID-19 related lawsuits be a part of any stimulus package, and refusing to allow a vote on a bill until there is one.

I think Democrats have been absolutely correct in refusing to let McConnell keep his silver tongue up corporate assholes, but I also think that we have got to begin--and I mean yesterday--tying the upcoming economic tsunami to Mitch McConnell.  In fact, I think every Democrat should begin calling it the "McConnell recession."

If there's anything to learn from republicans, it's that repetition is the key.  Keep saying it and saying it and let McConnell try to explain why he let millions of Americans suffer economically for months on end during the midterm elections in 2022.  It's far past time to take the fight to him.

Burning down the house

The republican plan for America
With each passing day, it becomes more and more obvious that republicans realize they are going to lose this November, and as such are going to do everything they can to leave as big of a mess as they can for Democrats to clean up next year.  From half-assed "negotiations" on the coronavirus relief bill to their insistence on only short term aid (up until, surprise of surprises, election day) republicans seem perfectly content to let their scorched earth view of our economy harm as many Americans as they can.

My guess is they're hoping for a replay of 2010 when the economy hadn't heated up as fast as many had hoped and a too small recovery package doomed Democrats mightily in the mid-term elections.

All of which makes it imperative that we take the Senate so we can set forth robust economic policies to help as many Americans as we possibly can.

Half measures will need not apply.

Maggots, Part 2

Steven Mnuchin and other Trump economic advisers...
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said today that, "It just wouldn't be fair to use taxpayer dollars to pay people more to sit home than they would working and get a job."

You know what else isn't fair?  The fact that Mnuchin's boss so magnificently fucked up America's coronavirus response that over fifty million people are out of work, many of them having lost jobs that will never be coming back.

Hell, if he wants to talk economic fairness, I have a host of unfair realities:

  • How about republicans refusing to raise the minimum wage for 11 years despite the fact that the cost of living isn't getting any lower?
  • Or what about wage stagnation, which has been engineered by Corporate America so that most Americans were lucky to see a 1 or 2% raise in their wages over the past three and a half years despite Trump's "boom"  bullshit economic voodoo?
  • Or how about that Trump tax cut which gave millions to billionaires and pennies to the average American?
  • Or what about those folks who lost their jobs the last time republicans fucked up the economy, the Great Recession, and had to take jobs that paid significantly less than the job they lost, and have never recovered that lost income (on a personal note, I figure I'm down about eighty grand at this point)?
The pennies they've thrown at us these past few months don't even put a dent in the money lost by American workers because of policies that are written by and for the wealthy at the expense of the rest of us.  As far as I'm concerned, Mnuchin can go fuck himself.

In the end, this also shows how clueless the Trump administration is about the pandemic we've now been facing for five months--the unemployment supplement was to keep people home so we could slow the virus and keep the economy churning.  Sending people back to work when COVID-19 is still raging out of control will do nothing to stop it, and therefore send our economy even further into the abyss that Mnuchin and Trump have created.

Maggots, Part 1

Mitch McConnell and his fellow republican Senators
Republican Senators are up in arms over the cost of another coronavirus stimulus package, worrying that the U.S. deficit is getting out of control.

Funny, I don't remember republican Senators worrying too terribly much about Trump's tax cuts, which did nothing for average Americans but did manage to add trillions (FYI, that link is to Forbes, hardly a liberal rag) to the deficit they're so worried about.

Had republicans not completely botched the coronavirus we wouldn't even be having this conversation.  But once again, they do show their true colors--socialism for the rich, good; socialism for the poor...deficits!

Here's hoping Democrats in Congress tell them to blow it out their rich asses.

Go for it, Moscow Mitch

Go fuck yourself, Mitch
In addition to refusing to pass another stimulus bill in the face of the coronavirus pandemic unless there is a provision shielding Corporate America from liability from customers and employees who get sick after Corporate America fails to adequately protect them, Mitch McConnell is now also demanding that all schools reopen this fall, regardless of if it's safe or not, to pass said financial relief bill.

Hopefully, Democrats can read polls and seeing that Joe Biden is currently crushing Donald Trump and republicans stand to lose the Senate as well as more seats in the House, tell Sen. McConnell to blow it out his ass.

I'm more than happy to run ads this fall explaining to the American people that Democrats had a bill ready to help stabilize their financial uncertainties, but republicans refused to pass it, preferring instead to put Corporate America's needs before theirs, as well as ensuring that our children succumb to a debilitating disease.

In fact, I'd really love our chances come November 3rd--especially with republicans trying to tell American voters that thanks to a tanked economy and dead children they're better equipped to run the country than their Democratic counterparts.

How you gonna keep 'em down on the farm?

It's a whole new world...
Lindsay Graham told a group of South Carolina businessmen this week that another federal stipend (like the current $600 a week being added to unemployment benefits) in the next stimulus package would only happen over his dead body (he should give thanks we're a peaceful sort or most assuredly we could grant that request), as it was more money than most folks make and would not be conducive to their risking their lives returning to work for the peanuts they currently earn.  In the same breath he also warned that businesses would have to be careful how it's handled lest they piss off the miserable  bastards having to return to piss poor paying jobs.

Probably a bit late for that--most of those folks making $7.25 an hour to put away folks smelly bowling shoes or themselves reeking of cooking grease after flipping their fucking burgers are probably already pretty pissed about it.

You'll note that Senator Graham didn't mention what would be the one obvious solution to their dilemma:  raising the minimum wage.  Democrats have already passed a bill in the house raising it to $15,00 an hour,  so all it needs is a vote in the Senate.  While it wouldn't be worth losing one's life over, at least the survivors could afford a decent funeral (especially if hazard pay was added to that).

But that wouldn't help their wealthy benefactors who have shown again and again that they are more than happy to let them die stocking shelves for pennies as long as they can float between their first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth homes or sail out to sea on their yachts to keep themselves safe.

The rest of us can just eat cake.

Un-American

In the water is wet, the sky is blue news of the day, emergency funds for small businesses were dumped heavily into red states and the scraps were left for the blue.  This was done to help red state Senators in the upcoming elections.

What kind of piece of shit devises a policy such as this, and what kind of piece of shit actually votes for candidates who support this un-American and heinous handing out of favors which leaves Americans to suffer because they didn't vote a certain way?

Never mind--republicans do.

It's reached a point where looking at any republican is akin to looking at a maggot infested turd floating in a pool of phlegm.

Digging their own graves

It's hard to see, in light of the coronavirus stimulus packages being heavily weighted toward corporations and the utterly craven and disgusting behavior (seriously, read the piece at the link--I truly thought it impossible to hate the rich anymore than I already do, but apparently I was mistaken) of the wealthy, how we either pass a wealth tax or else grab our pitchforks and start lighting our torches.

I mean, it's one thing when you lose your job during a recession and have to go through hard times for a few months, and it's completely another when your friends and family are dying and your kids are going hungry...while rich folks are lining their pockets with your tax dollars and fleeing for their estates in gated communities.

It's only going to be a matter of time before the wheels start coming off the limousines.
