Reason #999 that we need Labor Unions

Take a peek at this:

Does anybody seriously believe that if fast food workers had a Union that four out of five of them would have suffered serious burns in the past year?  Or that one/third of all fast food restaurants wouldn't have something as simple as a first aid kit?  Don't kid yourself--this is a complete and utter lack of concern for a company's workers (not that unusual these days, but still).

And just where the hell do these companies come up with leaders who somehow think that a condiment you would slather on cold cuts is a suitable medical remedy for a burn?  Christ, what's next--bleeding with leeches?

Courage personified

Over one hundred McDonald's employees, fighting for a living wage of $15 and the right to unionize, were arrested outside of McDonald's corporate headquarters on Wednesday while protesting.

As you watch the above video, note that when the McDonald's workers are arrested, they are in a sea of police in riot gear.  For fuck's sake, these folks flip burgers and run cash registers for a living--they're hardly the Third Reich.  You'd think, too, that the police would realize that the 1% who demanded their presence to protect their worthless asses are just as hungry to gut police pay and benefits.

McDonald's CEO Don Thompson claimed today that his company pays "fair and competitive wages."  There's nothing "fair" about $7.25 an hour--people with families to support don't risk their jobs when they're getting paid a decent wage.

But they do when they're working their asses off and still living below the poverty level--as a great man once said, when you aint got nothin', you got nothin' to lose.

McDonald's Crappy Deal

Anyone wondering the severity of the uphill battle working class men and women in America are facing need only look to lawsuits filed this week against McDonald's and some of their franchisees in California, Michigan, and NewYork alleging the company withheld wages, cheated its workers out of overtime, and denied them legally mandated lunches and rest breaks.

Think about that:  they already pay their employees poverty wages but that's not good enough so they're screwing them out of a few extra pennies that have been legally earned to boot.  How much fucking better can the powers that be at McDonald's eat that makes them feel the need to take food out of the mouths of their employees' children?

They really should be hitting their knees every night and thanking God their abused employees aren't shooting snot rockets into the special sauce.

Cue "Taps"

Fresh on the heels of McDonald's McResources telling its employees to apply for SNAP benefits and Medicaid in lieu of actually paying them a living wage, we have Wal-Mart, which is owned by the Walton family with a net worth just north of $150 billion, encouraging its employees to donate food to help out their fellow workers in need this Thanksgiving.

Sweet fucking Jesus.

Folks, the American dream is officially dead.  These are the jobs of the future (and why the recent strikes against fast food chains and Wal-Mart are so significant) and if the powers that be are more than happy to let their workers depend on taxpayer largesse and their employees' families being fed by their co-workers there is no limit to how low it can go.

Shit--we're even more fucked than I thought.
