The blame belongs with Wal-Mart
Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

These people are absolute fucking monsters
NEW: Trump admin goes to SCOTUS to try and stop order that it pay full SNAP benefits this month DOJ asks the justices for an order by 9:30 p.m. Friday — as USDA was in the middle of completing its process for making full payments, under a court order to finish Friday. Now at Law Dork:

Trump is starving children on purpose
Rosa is right. The Trump administration is saying it lacks authority to use the SNAP contingency fund for November benefits. Not true. They’re illegally withholding the funds to put further pain on Americans during the shutdown. They have the money, but refuse to use it.

Unconscionable
While Trump spent the weekend golfing on the taxpayer's dime, millions are starting the week unsure how they'll buy groceries without SNAP benefits. Unconscionable.

Easy to see why the French used the guillotine
Apparently there was a Gatsby party at Mar a Lago, while Trump is trying to kick 42 million off SNAP

People are going to starve because Trump is in the Epstein Files
42 million Americans will be without SNAP benefits at the end of this month. Children, babies, expecting mothers, the disabled and the elderly. The most vulnerable amongst us.

The GOP doesn't have Christian values and never has
Let’s clear something up: SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — the LARGEST federal program to fight hunger in the country! It blows my mind that the party that touts its “Christian values” is the same party that is SET on taking food from the hungry.

Once again, the GOP showing it's anything but Christian
Republicans called us "hunger weirdos" for saying people shouldn't go without food.

Guess what? I think what's "weird" is having hungry veterans, seniors & kids when we live in the richest country on Earth.

Speaking of shithole states...
New: Iowa Republicans are now proposing extreme limits on what food low-income people can eat through SNAP, putting even more pressure on families with children. https://t.co/vO1dQDhPjB pic.twitter.com/9LrApOTrsF

Lost in the shuffle, Part 1
![]() |
| This should never happen in the richest nation on earth. Never. |
It's easy to lose sight of signs of the further decline of America's greatness in the daily onslaught of all the terrible deeds of Donald Trump and his impending impeachment. But it's important to note that the republican party's War on the Poor continues apace, as the Trump administration has recently proposed changes in food stamp rules that this spring will result in three million more Americans going hungry--and most of them will be in the republican stronghold of rural America.
Most Americans are a major hospital bill or a blown car engine away from joining folks the like of the young man in the picture above. We would be wise to see this move by Donald Trump for what it is--another way for republicans to take care of the wealthy and let the rest of us (literally) starve.
The Make American Hungry Again movement continues its quest to turn America into a third world country.

And the lack thereof

| Thanks but no |
So it came as no surprise to me this week when news leaked that Klobuchar had voted to confirm more judges nominated by Donald Trump than any of her fellow contenders--and by a considerable margin (better than 25% more). One wonders how she'll rationalize this, as Trump is nominating right wing ideologues who stand to do considerable harm to workers' rights, workers' paychecks, Americans' healthcare, voting rights, LGBQT rights, and a host of other that will most certainly affect Minnesotans.
Frankly, what this country needs in its post-Trump era is a President borne of the courage and fortitude that makes up the Democratic Party and it platform and not weak kneed Democratic lite candidates like Amy Klobuchar.

| A true American hero |
Rich pampered airhead Betsy DeVos joked at last week's CPAC (Cretinous Pinheads and Chickenshits) Convention that she's the first person to ever tell Bernie Sanders to his face that "there is no such thing as a free lunch."
Leaving aside the fact that it really takes a special kind of asshole to make a joke about hungry kids, DeVos should be the last person to tell Bernie Sanders, a man who got to where he was through intelligence and hard work and not because his Daddy and his spouse were rich, anything that questions his worldview.
Of course, considering all the money her family spent to make her the most unqualified Cabinet member in the history of the United States of America, she probably wouldn't know much about a compassionate worldview.
Because she just uses dollar bills to pull herself up by her bootstraps.

Not buying it
Though a good case could be made for allowing those in need to buy lottery tickets which have an exponentially better chance of improving their lives economically than republican policies (see also, Bush, George W.), what this proves is that republicans continue to have absolutely no fucking idea what it's like to be poor. Do they really believe with the piddling amount of money these folks get every month they're really going to risk their families' rent payments or their electric bills on a trip to Disneyland? They're poor, not stupid.
I work for a grocery chain in an impoverished section of Detroit. Some days, we do 70% of our business in food stamps, and contrary to what some republicans think, they are not buying lobster and foie de gras. Their SNAP cards get filled once a month and they are buying five packages of the chicken breasts we have at $1.49 a pound. They're buying two bags of the Malt o'Meal equivalent of Froot Loops for $1.99 because it will last a lot longer than one box of the actual Froot Loops. They're buying three packs of hot dogs for .99 each. They're being frugal because the food they're buying today has to last the entire month.
Just because poor folks don't spend as lavishly doesn't mean they don't love and want to take care of their families any less than those people who are a lot better off financially.
Peace,
emaycee
