Stinker to...

Out on another fruitless book selling tour, Dick Cheney called the foreign policy actions of President Obama as "...those of the worst President we've ever had."

Huh--I thought Dick Cheney was the worst President (two disastrous wars, economic collapse, Hurricane Katrina, just to name a few) we ever had...oops, that's right, he was Vice-President.

Silly me.

Nothing to see here

I haven't written anything about the recent report released on torture done in our names by the American government, but this poll sure opened my eyes:  by a 59-31 margin--that's right, almost 60% of us--Americans believe the use of torture is justified to obtain information from suspected terrorists.

And it's a slippery slope that leads from beacon of freedom to despotic nation.

I don't know exactly how one changes the thought processes of Americans on a policy that not only stains our national image but shows a decided lack of empathy for human suffering, but I have to wonder how most Americans would feel if rectal feeding or waterboarding were used by suspected terrorists on our men and women in uniform.

I fear I may not like our response to that one, either.

November reign

While I haven't seen any polls that make me giddy for this November's elections, it sure doesn't seem like 2010 either.  I mean by this time in 2010 election cycle, everybody on the left was warning that the November results could be ugly--they were and then some.

The feeling this time around seems to be that we might lose some ground but nothing is looking as catastrophic as the 2010 midterms (yeah, yeah, yeah--famous final words, etc., etc.).  It certainly doesn't hurt that republicans seem to have adopted a strategy which calls for shooting themselves in the foot on a regular basis...

...like having Dick Cheney scatter his mug all over TV criticizing President Obama for his Iraq War policy, which would be like the Democrats trotting out James Buchanan, the man who fiddled while the country smoldered, to criticize Abraham Lincoln for his guidance of the Civil War.  Trotting out Cheney is like a cruise line featuring the Titanic on the front page of its sales brochure.

Not to be outdone by the man who wanted to be king, some republican Senators are calling for a government shutdown to block the President's new environmental regulations.  Because the last one worked so well.

My dear republicans, in the immortal words of President Obama, "Please proceed."

What a Dick...Cheney

In many countries, a politician who did as piss poor of a job as Bush the Lesser's henchman Dick Cheney (collpapse of the American economy, asleep at the wheel on 9/11, two mismanaged wars, yawning while hundreds of Americans died in New Orleans) would be, rightfully, drawn and quartered.

In American, though, you get to go on TV and whine that the President would rather spend money on food stamps than spend even more in our morbidly obese defense budget.  Apparently the irony of more than $100 million in food stamps going to our military families is lost on Mr. Cheney--spending for a necessary evil trumping spending for the greater good and all that.  Fuck hungry children--what we need are more $435 hammers.

Frankly, Mr. Cheney and his ilk are enough to make a maggot puke.
