Leaving aside the fact that republicans aren't arguing that Trump is innocent or that his quid pro quo with Ukraine isn't illegal (which means that he's guilty and that it's illegal), but are criticizing the process under which Democrats are impeaching him....leaves one to wonder if there is no level of chutzpah that republicans won't ignore.

I mean talking about rules when their party's leader has shit on the Constitution, reached levels of corruption that are unprecedented, uses cruelty as a crutch, and thinks his sexual deviancy is a divine right should be cause to allow every American to bitch slap every elected republican whenever they may choose.

How Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer can get through each day without appearing before the press and saying, "You know what? Republicans can go fuck themselves!" is beyond me.

The next time a republican mentions patriotism to you, make sure you remember this poll from the University of Maryland, in which people were asked if it were an impeachable offense for the President of the United States to invite interference from a foreign nation in our elections...and 91% of Democrats said yes, but only 46% of republicans said the same.

The soliciting of foreign nations by the leader of our country to subvert our elections is the embodiment of treason--and yet 54% of republicans think it is acceptable or weren't sure (the level of stupid to not be sure reaches to the heavens).

With each passing day it becomes more and more obvious that not only are republicans not very good Americans, they're not even very good people.

Think about this:  while Mitch McConnell is living in an alternate reality where he believes he's doing the work of the American people while he's fellating the wealthy, he's made life worse--and will continue to do so--for the 90% of Americans who are not rich.  Name another business where you can treat 90% of your customers like shit and still keep your job...

...other than Corporate America, of course.

McConnell's fantasy governing is reason why, not just politically in helping to win back the Senate but also in helping ordinary Americans to have safer and better lives, we need to tie Moscow Mitch, and his filthy corrupt wife Elaine Chao, to every step of the impeachment inquiry of Donald Trump, so that as many Americans as possible can know that Mitch McConnell is every bit as corrupt and vile as Donald Trump.

McConnell has supported Trump at America's expense every step of the way, and he needs to be held accountable for his despicable actions.

Yesterday, Donald Trump stood on the White House lawn in front of the White House Press Corps and encouraged not just the Ukraine, but also China, to try and dig up dirt on Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.

I know it's hard sometimes not to just roll your eyes and think it's just Trump being the piece of shit he is, but for the sake of our nation, for the sake of our democracy, it is absolutely vital that we point out again and again just how abhorrent his behavior is...lest we set the table for his successors to do as they please as well.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio took to Twitter this week to defend Mitch McConnell, who's a bit upset that his new nickname, Moscow Mitch, is sticking to him like stink to shit.  Considering Donald Trump's collusion and McConnell's refusal to let the Senate vote on any election security bills, Rubio actually had the fucking gall to tell Americans not to fall into Vladimir Putin's trap because Putin's tactics served neither party and were just trying to divide us.

The future is now

Acting for what is right makes electoral might

One of the unfortunate aspects of having been a Democrat for over forty years is watching the party continually act in the interests of what they think will help them win elections rather than doing what is right to do only to lose said elections because the American electorate is not particularly fond of rewarding cowardice.

I keep coming back to this as I watch Nancy Pelosi tiptoe around beginning impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump and Elizabeth Warren lead a full on charge to show the American people that the President is not above the law and should be held accountable for his administration's corruption, collusion, and its obstruction of justice.  Warren is fighting for our Democracy; Pelosi is normalizing Trump's behavior and our party will be the worse for it.

If Donald Trump wins in 2020 and the Democrats did not impeach, I can guarantee you that Elizabeth Warren will still be a well-respected Senator from Massachusetts, and Nancy Pelosi's legacy, reputation, and career will be in tatters.

Impeach now.  There is no other option.

It's time for Madame Speaker to lead

There's a sculpture of a fist in downtown Detroit, and it commemorates Detroit native and all-time great boxer Joe Louis beating Germany's Max Schmeling in their second meeting.  Louis lost their first fight on a twelfth round knockout, and Adolph Hitler and the rest of Nazi Germany used it as a boast of the superiority of the white race...until Louis decimated Schmeling in the rematch with a tremendous first round knockout, and became one of America's first African-American heroes.  It is said that the fist points toward Canada because it is a symbol of America fighting for Democracy outside its borders.

I note this because Donald Trump said this week that he would welcome a foreign adversary's help again in 2020 and would feel no obligation to report such aid to the FBI.  While Trump kinda/sorta walked his statements back later in the week, he had all the sincerity of a man dealing three card monte.  One would suppose that this would be enough for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to say enough is enough and open impeachment hearings as Trump stated he would be happy to cheat again in order to win another four years in office.  Nope--Pelosi still thinks slow and steady will win the race, except for the fact that all of her and her leadership team's political calculations will fall to rot if Trump happily cheats his way to a second term.

Seventy-five years ago America gave all it had to save Democracy for the world.  It is time for Nancy Pelosi to do the same.

History will not be kind if she does not.

Time has come today

Now.

With former White House attorney Dan McGahn's refusal yesterday to honor the subpoena issued by House Democrats, the time has come to quit fiddle-farting around and begin impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump.  It doesn't matter if it's politically expedient, and frankly we don't have time for months of hearings to build the case.

Trump and the republican party are shredding the U.S. Constitution's system of checks and balances between the branches of government, which has served us well for over two hundred years, right before our eyes.  It's time to stand up for what's right or be prepared to lie in the muck of What Could Have Been History.

This is no longer a reality show called The Man Who Would Be King--it's an existential fight for our Democracy and the future of our nation.

Trump sycophant Rudy Giulani went on TV this weekend to defend the administration's collusion with Russia and question if it was even illegal to accept a foreign government's help in a United States election.

Leaving aside the fact that if a Democratic President had pulled the shit Trump has pulled with regard to Russia half of the republicans in America would have had an aneurysm by now screaming "Impeachment!" at the top of their lungs, the republican party isn't even pretending to care about our country anymore.  As Paul Krugman noted this week, as long as republicans can continue to cut taxes for the wealthy Trump can do whatever he wants, even if the end result is America becoming a shadow of itself and what it stands for.  And ordinary Americans?  Humbug to them.

I tell you, either we bury these fuckers in 2020...or we bury America.

Political courage

You've got to fight to make what's right

I don't pretend to know what the best political calculation for Democratic electoral chances in 2020 concerning the impeachment of Russian tool Donald Trump is, but I do know that it is the right and moral action to take.  If we walk away and let Trump run roughshod over our Democratic norms the nation will rue the hell we unleashed.

Elizabeth Warren did not hesitate to make this distinction last Friday when she became the second Democratic Presidential aspirant (Julian Castro was first) and the first serious contender to call for impeachment.  Warren has thus far run a very thoughtful campaign (which I fear may doom her--a woman and smart? Pshaw!), but she showed no fear in championing an action that as yet no one knows how it will play among voters because it is what we should do regardless of our electoral quests.

With each passing day Elizabeth Warren is showing us that she has the intelligence, wherewithal, and courage to be the anti-Trump that puts America back on the right track.

Here's hoping Democratic voters have the prescience to follow her lead.

Truth will be beauty after we see the full report

All you need to know about "Attorney General" William Barr's "press conference" today on the release of the redacted (key word!) Mueller report is that he noted not once, not twice, not three times, not four times, but five times that Mueller found no evidence of collusion.

His denials mean beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, an enemy of the United States of America.

Period.

It may well be that the Mueller Report was unable to prove that Donald Trump colluded with Russia and/or obstructed justice.  But until the full report is released, I ain't believing shit.

William Barr is not an Attorney General in the conventional sense--like Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Kellyanne Conway, as he made clear in his confirmation hearings, he is nothing more than a paid political spokesman for Donald Trump.

And since the Trump administration has made lying one of its central tenets, why on earth would anyone believe anything one of its members says concerning Trump's culpability?

I can handle the truth, but there's no way in hell I'm taking Trump's word for it.

It's a trifecta

The agenda of today's republican party

With 182 republicans voting yesterday to let Donald Trump proceed with his fake national emergency in order to get the wall built that doesn't need to be built, republicans have now completed a trifecta of dismissing their party's values as long as such is beneficial to Donald Trump. 

After enabling a serial philanderer and sexual harasser, republicans can give up their claim to being the party of God.  By downplaying the impact of Russia's involvement in the Presidential election of 2016, they've given up the mantle of patriotism.  And any republican who screams about the U.S. Constitution should be give a swift boot to the head after voting to relinquish Congress' power of the purse in pursuit of giving Donald Trump an imaginary victory in a war he has already lost.

So when any republican brings up God, patriotism, or the U.S. Constitution as being values they promote, feel free to laugh in their faces.  They've sold their souls for a few years in power, but the devil will be calling soon for his just compensation.

Think about this:  The FBI opened an investigation into whether the President of the United States was secretly working on behalf of Russia.  The magnitude of it is mind boggling--our chief law enforcement agency did not trust the President of the United States to act in this country's best interest.

Now think about this:  The fact that this wasn't the only point of discussion in our national media since the day the story broke, because, you know, both siderism.

As Nancy Pelosi goes down in our history as an extraordinary heroine for standing up to Trump, so will our national media go down in history for its sheer and utter cowardice in the face of all that Trump has done to disgrace this nation.

Donald Trump this week claimed he wasn't worried about impeachment, because if he was impeached the people would revolt.

One presumes he's talking about the forty percent of Americans who approve of the job he's doing (I'd like to say I'm surprised that many Americans are that stupid but I drive the highways of this nation every day), the vast majority of whom aren't about to get up off the couch, turn off Netflix, put away their Doritos and salsa, give up their jobs, leave the wife and kids, and get off their phones before finding out if the Bears won to fight for a fat ass pumpkin head who has shown time and again that if you ain't rich he ain't giving a shit.

So he can count on a few hundred numbnuts who will show up and wave their guns for a bit, and then tuck tail and run once the police show up.

But here's hoping the fantasy lasts until at least the White House door is slapping his ass on his way out.
