Clueless Joe

Joe Biden speaking recently:

And it's good to see that Vice President Biden has no intention of improving on his non-existent showing in the 1988 and 2008 Presidential primary campaigns.

Maybe when it's over he and Jim Webb can reminisce about the (not so) good old days.

On Joe Biden campaigning for the Presidency

In a word, no.

Look, I love Joe Biden--he's a great Vice-President (especially when compared to the King of the Oblivious Assholes, Dick Cheney), he's a great Democrat, and his story is inspiring (the loss of his first wife and baby daughter at the age of 30, and the recent loss of his oldest son Beau to brain cancer are not easy tragedies to suffer with grace, and Biden did that and more, all while in the public eye).  He's a Liberal and he has a wealth of experience.

But...we already have a solid Liberal in the race with Bernie Sanders, and one of the few candidates with more experience than Biden, Hillary Clinton.  I just see Biden muddying the race--he really has nothing to add.  While I understand there are concerns about Clinton's e-mail controversy, poll after poll has shown that Americans don't give a rat's ass.  I also know there are those who are concerned about Sanders' electability, but frankly I think they are much overblown because the Electoral map is so much in our favor and Sanders has a message that resonates far and wide.  Factor in that Biden has made two previous runs (1988 and 2008) and made nary a dent with the party faithful, and you have a campaign not ready for prime time.

Plus I have a hunch that of the three who actually have a chance (Webb and Chafee would be worse but neither has a prayer in hell) to win the nomination, Biden is far and away the one the republicans would want to face.  The parallels to Al Gore (another great Democrat) are uncanny--the VP of a successful administration with a propensity to put his foot in his mouth.

Better to smile and wave and go out on a winning note.

What did you do this weekend?

Joe Biden, filling in for the traveling President Obama, used the President's weekly address to America to tout why we should raise the minimum wage.  Dannell Malloy, the Democratic Governor of Connecticut, on Thursday night signed a bill passed by the Democratic controlled legislature to become the first state to increase the minimum wage to $10.10.  Congressional Democrats are working on bringing votes on legislation aimed at increasing the minimum wage, reducing the pay gap between men and women, lowering the interest on college loans, and closing tax loopholes for corporations that do business overseas.  No, they won't pass, but at least we're trying.

Republicans, meanwhile, are spending this weekend kissing the ass of billionaire Sheldon Adelson, who is trying to figure out which one of them, by running for President in 2016, can help him add to his estimated $40 billion dollar net worth, and just for shits and grins, fuck over America's working class to boot.

I know the Democratic Party is a long way from perfect, but anybody who claims there's no difference between our country's two parties is either a scared shitless republican or not paying any attention whatsoever.

Twenty-five reasons to vote for Obama: #25--Joe Biden

For those counting and fearing, there's twenty-five more days until D-Day:  the 2012 election of our next President on November 6th.  In that spirit, I'm presenting the top 25 reasons (hopefully one each day through  November 5th) to re-elect President  Barack Obama.  And number twenty-five is...

...Joe Biden.  After his spectacular drubbing of Jughead in the Vice-Presidential debate last night, Joe Biden made it perfectly clear he is the vastly superior candidate for the job of the second most important individual in the world.  He stands for the working people of America and is a warrior both for the President and the Democratic agenda--little things like healthcare for all, retirement security, fair taxation, and the better paying jobs that the security of unions leads to.  Paul Ryan is nothing more than what we have been saying all along--an intellectual lightweight, long on vapidness and short on substance.  He doesn't care one whit for the average American and lives only to fellate Wall Street, corporations, and the wealthy.

Besides, on the entertainment scale, Biden is the Super Bowl and Ryan a quaint game of tic, tac, toe.

Stupid commentary of the night.

The post debate comment from Steve Schmidt on MSNBC, republican strategist for John McCain in 2008, was that the "big" story of tonight's debate over the next two or three days would be Biden's laughter and smiling, and how it would be perceived.  And you can easily see why McCain got trounced in 2008.

Because the big story from tonight's debate is not going to be some wild-eyed republican talking point but that Joe Biden kicked Paul Ryan's ass and reinvigorated the Democratic base in the process.

Biden Vs. Jughead

So much for the boy wonder, Paul Ryan--he got his ass bitch slapped by a man old enough to remember when republicans were honorable opponents, and not the lying chickenshits they've become.

Two fish

Joe Biden, to a group of largely African-Americans in Virginia:  "...[Willard Romney] is going to let the big banks once again write their own rules.  Unchain Wall Street.  They're going to put y'all back in chains."

Rochelle Riley (an African-American) on Biden's statement:  "But what he did do was go too far in his efforts to talk about the damage Republican policies could do to America's middle class, poor, and minority residents--who are not all the same people."

Riley's column was kind of all over the place--at its end I wasn't really sure what she was striving for--but part of it was about conservatives making it impolitic to talk about racism even though it still exists...which, if this is her hoped for change, she should be absolutely applauding Biden's comments.  I mean a white man calling out republicans for their inherent racism?  It's brilliance--who else but a white American male could honestly call them out for it and be listened to?  And what's with this bullshit about how the middle class, the poor, and minority residents are not all the same people?  We most assuredly are--we're all Americans who are suffering under the damage done over the past thirty years by republican policies and people of Ms. Riley's ilk who are so willing to compromise with them on economic matters for the sake of bipartisanship.

It often amazes me how African-Americans can take as much bullshit from republicans without going postal on a daily basis--I do not have the inner strength to take the shit they do.  But then I read comments like this from Rochelle Riley:  "...conservatives and racists, who by no means are always the same people..." and I think it might just be either an utter lack of conviction or sheer ignorance on the part of African-Americans' leaders.

Your mistake, Ms. Riley, is believing their bullshit about how you can be a republican and not be a racist.  You can't.  I've been on this planet fifty-three years and have never met a republican/conservative who was not a racist.  Get deep down into their hearts, when they think no one is watching, and their true selves will come out.  Given the chance to save a black person's life and that of an ant, they will save the ant every time because they just do not think of "you people" (their words) as living, breathing human beings.

Game on

Just a hunch, judging from the 37,000 or so e-mails I received today from like-minded political organizations, but it seems Willard made quite an interesting pick today for his running mate.

I think his choice of Paul Ryan could be a spectacular one--if the national media is honest and lets the American people know the draconian agenda Ryan favors and Willard just signed up for.  In the simplest of terms, Romney/Ryan just blindfolded America's poor, middle class, and elderly  and handed them a live grenade.  If they figure out what it is in those first few seconds and toss it, well bully for them.  If not--oh well, it's their own goddamned fault.

And if the Democratic Party actually stands up for its ideals.  Beause we have the chance to show many Americans (forget the Antoinettes--they're hopeless) that there is truly a stark difference between us and them.  We see an America where all people are equal, where opportunity arises for all, where we look after the least of our brothers.  They see an America where you wouldn't piss on your next door neighbor if he was on fire unless you got paid a nickel first.  After seeing the Pavlovian salivating going on from most of those on the left today, I'd like to hope that's the choice we show them.

Unforunately, as we've seen all too often over the past four years, it doesn't often happen that way.

Still, the one person who has to be happiest about this is Joe Biden--can't imagine Jughead is going to charm his way into making a better impression than previously thought possible in the Veep debate.  He'll just be his heartless regular self.

Pop goes the weasel

Eric Cantor has always struck me as a weaselly sort--the kind of guy who'd run over your dog and tell the cops it was your dog's fault, all the while telling you how sorry he is.  His walking out on the Biden led budget talks over tax increases is being explained as standing up for conservative principles or pacifying the wealthy (protecting those making 500K+) or throwing John Boehner under the bus (making Bohner be the one to cave to the Dems increase in tax revenues).

How about calling it what it is:  a complete and utter lack of cojones.  Feigning righteous indignation while fucking over your fellow Americans is not the hallmark of heroes.  It's the sin of gutless twerps--two words, come to think of it, which describe Eric Cantor perfectly.

Whining wimps and blithering babies--Danger ahead edition

I don't care for my congressman (Mike Rogers-R-MI). I disagreed with him vociferously while he was rubber stamping the disastrous Bush the Lesser agenda. He's little more than a Republican toadie, a seasoned liar, and his mind knows independence like mine knows cold fusion (i.e., zip, zero, nada). I wrote him letters expressing my disappointment with his votes. I've voted proudly against him twice. Never, though, never did I think that throwing a brick through his office window or threatening the lives of his children was a valid option. Silly me--apparently this is appropriate behavior for "patriots." For the rest of us, though, I'm certain it would be viewed as terrorism. Along that same line, the Republicans passed many bills during the Bush the Lesser years (tax cuts for the wealthy, the credit card bill, Iraq war resolution, the Medicare prescription plan that was little more than a giveaway to the pharmaceutical industry) that I vehemently opposed--**Aside--good day for big words beginning with the letter "v"**--but never, repeat, never did I think that somehow they had cheated to pass their agenda. Yes, I was unhappy, yes, I think they made our country worse off, but the truth of the matter is they won majorities in the House and Senate, won the Presidency, and therefore had the right to pass their agenda. And I had the right to write letters to the editor, donate to Democratic candidates, and work for defeating those majorities (2006--YES!! 2008--YES, AGAIN!!). One would think that now that Healthcare reform has passed (nyah, nyah--fuck you Tea Partiers) and the Republicans are perilously close to the political wilderness again (once the majority of the American people see what this bill does, they're going to like it--though it does have its faults--and vote for the party of go over the party of no) they would at least attempt to be good losers and give themselves a chance with socially liberal/fiscally conservative independents. Nope--why suck it up like an adult when you can throw a tantrum like a child. Is there a more pathetic politican these days than John McCain? And, thank you, Vice President Biden, your enthusiasm is warranted: this is a "...big fucking deal!" Peace, emaycee
