Not so equal pay day

To celebrate Equal Pay Day, republicans chose to once again fellate the powers that be in corporate America and continue to do all they can to make sure that women do not make as much money as men.  Their fearful Senate leader, Mitch McConnell, went so far as to claim that equal pay was "...the left's latest bizarre obsession."  (One would hope, that between this crackbrained comment and McConnell's equally dotty earlier remark about Obamacare being a catastrophe that Sen. McConnell would sign up for Obamacare so he can get some psychiatric help.)

Just to make sure that everyone knows that they're not just discriminating against women, House republicans today noted that despite the Senate passing an emergency unemployment aid package, House republicans felt it was time for the program to come to an end.  So, considering there are three applicants for every job opening, republicans in essence have told those two unlucky applicants that they, and their children, are now free to starve to death.

I'd say it was rare to see this level of political incompetence, but hell, this is the modern republican party we're talking about.

And they're doing their damndest to make sure we Democrats stay competitive in the 2014 mid-terms.

What did you do this weekend?

Joe Biden, filling in for the traveling President Obama, used the President's weekly address to America to tout why we should raise the minimum wage.  Dannell Malloy, the Democratic Governor of Connecticut, on Thursday night signed a bill passed by the Democratic controlled legislature to become the first state to increase the minimum wage to $10.10.  Congressional Democrats are working on bringing votes on legislation aimed at increasing the minimum wage, reducing the pay gap between men and women, lowering the interest on college loans, and closing tax loopholes for corporations that do business overseas.  No, they won't pass, but at least we're trying.

Republicans, meanwhile, are spending this weekend kissing the ass of billionaire Sheldon Adelson, who is trying to figure out which one of them, by running for President in 2016, can help him add to his estimated $40 billion dollar net worth, and just for shits and grins, fuck over America's working class to boot.

I know the Democratic Party is a long way from perfect, but anybody who claims there's no difference between our country's two parties is either a scared shitless republican or not paying any attention whatsoever.

Make them pay

It's been a tough week for New Hampshire Sen. Kelly "I Have the Backbone of a Jellyfish" Ayotte.  First, she got caught betraying the people of her state by lying about the Manchin-Toomey gun background check legislation (she feared a national gun registry, the bill specifically prevents it).  Then she betrayed every woman in the United States by tap dancing her way around voting against equal pay for women by claiming we already have enough laws (as lame excuses go, that one's right up there with "the dog ate my homework").

A republican Senator from Alabama could have a sex tape of his affair with his own sister hit youtube and still get 60% of the vote.  But it is absolutely vital that we make radical right-wing Senators in blue/purple states pay for having no political courage and marching lockstep with the fringe membership of the republican party.

New Hampshire would be a damn fine place to start.

Keep it coming, fellas

Seems our own probable republican Senate nominee to take on Sen. Stabenow, Pete Hoekstra, just can't keep his foot out of his mouth.  When he's not using racist ads to denigrate Asian Americans, it seems he's telling women in Michigan that the Lilly Ledbetter Act is a "nuisance."

Because, you know, it's good politics to tell 51% of the voting public that it's too much of a pain in the ass to see that they're paid the same as men for doing the same job.

Enjoy those six extra years, Senator Stabenow....
