The GQP war on the poor continues

 Georgia asshole Governor Brian Kemp said last week that voters who had to wait in long lines to vote didn't need to have meals supplied because it wasn't a big deal for such voters to call Uber Eats to have their dinner delivered.  The idea that the voters standing in line are generally poor does not appear to have registered with Kemp, though you'd think it would have considering that the Georgia GQP specifically designed it to punish poor folks (especially people of color) for voting Democratic.

In all honesty, if it isn't such a big deal shouldn't it be okay for those voters to charge the republican party for their meals?  Or better yet, maybe Brian Kemp can pay for them.  It's only a few bucks, right?  Shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Once again, though, it's another member of the republican party letting their racist flags fly.  The GQP motto should be, "If You Ain't White, We Don't Give a Shit."

Because they don't.

The ideal workforce, to republicans

In his continuing effort to sell out our institutions and the very souls of America's citizens to Corporate America, Donald Trump has chosen Andrew Puzder, CEO of exquisite cuisine providers Hardee's and Carl's Jr., to be the Secretary of Labor.  For those not familiar, Puzder is a man who:

• Vehemently opposes the Fight for $15
• Wants to repeal Obamacare, which is the only way the folks who keep his restaurants in business can afford healthcare
• Opposes the Obama administrations new overtime rule because in some alternate universe his "managers" would prefer to have a job title rather than the income 
• Oversaw a chain in which 60 percent of their restaurants have been found to be in violation of labor standards
• Has zero governmental experience

On the bright side, though, we're one step closer to the torches and pitchforks going medieval on the rich folks asses....

The road to revolution...

...is paved with disenfranchisement.

I mention this because Ruth Bader Ginsburg this past week warned American consumers and workers about the growing trend in U.S. companies to force them into arbitration agreements, which, in a nutshell,  are most certainly not in their best interests.  As the Economic Policy Institute shows, when you take an employer or service provider to court, you have a 36% chance of winning with a median settlement of $176,000; in arbitration, you have a 21% chance of winning with a median settlement of $36,500.  What's worse is that since the 1980s, courts in the U.S. have allowed companies to flat refuse to hire you or use their services if you don't agree to arbitration, [As an aside, I had this happen to me just last week--I applied for a job online and after answering a couple of questions had a box pop-up that said I must agree now to arbitration or they would not consider hiring me.]

Further, a new study by the University of California and Bucknell University shows that the republican voter suppression tactic of requiring picture I.D.s have dropped Democratic turnout by 8.8% and republican turnout by only 3.6%.

When the powers that be take away a people's right to restitution and their right to change such rules through their vote, eventually you end up with a people that has nothing to lose.  And people that have nothing to lose don't always act as rational as they might.

Just ask King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.

Once again republicans in my home state (or what little is left of it) here in Michigan are attempting to pass legislation which would in effect rig the electoral college so that the republican candidate (who, by the way, has zero chance of taking the state) could at least get a few electoral votes all the while red states are making absolutely no effort to do the same for Democratic candidates.

In a post today at Digby's Hullabaloo, Tom Sullivan outlines efforts being made in North Carolina to subvert democracy and the will of the voters to rig elections for republicans.

In effect, republicans are cheating.

It's getting increasingly hard to distinguish republicans from your average run-of-the-mill psychopath--other than a psychopath at least has the excuse of mental illness while republicans are hateful pricks who have no respect whatsover for average Americans.

On the bright side, history has shown again and again that whenever you take away a people's voice--in this case, our vote--it never has a pretty ending.  Like say, your last vision being your head falling into a wooden bucket....

About to slip down

When I first moved to Michigan, there was no doubt in my mind that the reason my paycheck was fatter than it had been in Indiana was because of the United Auto Workers.  There's plenty of evidence that the decline of Unions has had a direct causative effect on income inequality--when Unions get their members better pay, everybody gets better pay.

Needless to say, republicans just can't have regular folks making a decent living at the expense of their benefactors, the Richie Rich's of America, and their war to destroy the middle class continues apace.

Not content to have destroyed public sector Unions in Wisconsin (and the state's economy with it), Koch brothers sycophant Scott "I Have No Opinion on That" Walker is readying himself to make his home staters even poorer with a new right to work for less law.  Ought to make for a hell of a Presidential campaign slogan:  MY CITIZENS MAKE LESS MONEY THAN YOURS!

Taking a cue from Walker and hoping to get a share of that Koch brothers cash for themselves, Nevada republicans are readying a series of laws to weaken labor unions and show that republicans don't have a problem with government regulation as long as it's being used to fuck over the poor and the middle class.

Couple the war on workers with new evidence that up to half of Americans are in dire shape financially and you have a recipe for Kochs flambe.

Because you can't keep a man down for long when he's starving.

Well, well, well--seems Richie Rich and his cronies are buying private airstrips and farms in remote areas of New Zealand in preparation for when the rest of us finally figure out that the game is rigged and are sick and tired of watching our kids go hungry and come looking with our pitchforks for our rightful share of the fruits of our labor.

Thought I'd been preaching to a choir of one but it appears not--I've always thought any idiot could be a millionaire (win the lottery) but that there are no stupid billionaires.

Though it does seem like it'd be a lot easier just to pay folks a living wage than plan some elaborate escape--and just who the hell do they think are going to take care of those farms in New Zealand?

Greed isn't pretty.
