 Anyone who thinks, in light of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's passing, that republicans are going to honor their 2016 claim that Supreme Court Justices should not be confirmed during election years...I've got some magic seeds to sell you which if you plant them will sprout hundred dollar bills.

Democrats should make every effort to protest--scream at the top of their lungs, point out again and again what republicans did to Merrick Garland in 2016, use it as a cudgel against vulnerable republican Senators in the election (Tillis, Collins, McSally, Ernst, Graham, Gardner, Daines), and vote lock step against any nominee that Trump puts forward.  

And then after republicans put their abject hypocrisy on display by confirming a Justice during an election year, should Joe Biden win and Democrats prevail in the Senate, Biden should announce the day after his inauguration that Americans have had it with republican bullshit and that he will be nominating four Justices to the Supreme Court.  He'll be basking in the glow of his election honeymoon, we'll have spent months explaining just how corrupt republicans are, and we'll probably be close to half a million dead Americans from the coronavirus.  Republicans will shit themselves, but the majority of Americans won't give a damn.  They'll just want peace of mind.

As the saying goes, when they bring a knife, we bring a gun.

Although she has (regretfully) walked back her comments on  Donald Trump (she called him a faker, said he was inconsistent, and was quite the egotist), Ruth Bader Ginsburg did the nation another in a long line of favors she has already done for us by showing Americans just how woefully inadequate our national media truly is.

For all their bluster about the Supreme Court being above such matters as Presidential elections, you'd think after all the speaking fees and free trips Roberts, Scalia, Thomas, and Alito have received over the years from republican affiliated groups they'd know by now that the Supreme Court is about as non-partisan as every other fucking branch of our government.

Besides, if they'd been doing their jobs instead of trying to suck up ratings from a freak show, Ginsburg's comments would have been just a few more in the Captain Obvious sweepstakes:  Donald Trump has as much business being near the Presidency of the United States as does my son's cat.

And the real embarrassment for America is that forty-five percent of Americans are going to vote for the fucking idiot.

The road to revolution...

...is paved with disenfranchisement.

I mention this because Ruth Bader Ginsburg this past week warned American consumers and workers about the growing trend in U.S. companies to force them into arbitration agreements, which, in a nutshell,  are most certainly not in their best interests.  As the Economic Policy Institute shows, when you take an employer or service provider to court, you have a 36% chance of winning with a median settlement of $176,000; in arbitration, you have a 21% chance of winning with a median settlement of $36,500.  What's worse is that since the 1980s, courts in the U.S. have allowed companies to flat refuse to hire you or use their services if you don't agree to arbitration, [As an aside, I had this happen to me just last week--I applied for a job online and after answering a couple of questions had a box pop-up that said I must agree now to arbitration or they would not consider hiring me.]

Further, a new study by the University of California and Bucknell University shows that the republican voter suppression tactic of requiring picture I.D.s have dropped Democratic turnout by 8.8% and republican turnout by only 3.6%.

When the powers that be take away a people's right to restitution and their right to change such rules through their vote, eventually you end up with a people that has nothing to lose.  And people that have nothing to lose don't always act as rational as they might.

Just ask King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.
