President Trump was supposed to sign the largest bipartisan housing bill in 30 years into law today. He’s refusing to do so until his election-rigging bill passes.   This is Trump 101: Trump first, Americans last. He’s a disgrace to this nation.

Or you will surely get it

Once again republicans in my home state (or what little is left of it) here in Michigan are attempting to pass legislation which would in effect rig the electoral college so that the republican candidate (who, by the way, has zero chance of taking the state) could at least get a few electoral votes all the while red states are making absolutely no effort to do the same for Democratic candidates.

In a post today at Digby's Hullabaloo, Tom Sullivan outlines efforts being made in North Carolina to subvert democracy and the will of the voters to rig elections for republicans.

In effect, republicans are cheating.

It's getting increasingly hard to distinguish republicans from your average run-of-the-mill psychopath--other than a psychopath at least has the excuse of mental illness while republicans are hateful pricks who have no respect whatsover for average Americans.

On the bright side, history has shown again and again that whenever you take away a people's voice--in this case, our vote--it never has a pretty ending.  Like say, your last vision being your head falling into a wooden bucket....

Letting lying dogs sleep

As you may or may not have heard, the republican led Michigan legislature is considering a plan to change the way our electoral votes are allotted--it's a somewhat convoluted plan, but suffice it to say that the idea is to allow the republican Presidential candidate to get at least a few electoral votes in Michigan even though he or she has as much chance of winning the states electoral votes based on the way the U.S. Constitution intended it to be as I do of farting $100 bills.  (Aside:  Funny how that whole disregarding the U.S. Consitution seems to get...um, disregarded when it comes to republican wants, isn't it?)

I, though, am one of the few Liberals who wholeheartedly endorse this plan--it's one thing (though it still isn't right) when you disenfranchise 10% of the voters in some podunk state in the South, and completely another when you disenfranchise 60% of the voters across the entire United States (figuring that approximately 40% of voters are Democrats or lean Democratic and 20% are more or less independent).

Pissing off that many Americans would be a final breath for a party already in its death throes.

Wouldn't bother attending the funeral, either.

Viva la revolucion!

My beautiful daughter sent me this piece by Jonathan Chait about republican election rigging via gerrymandering, legislation, voter intimidation, and whatever else their puny little minds can come up with, and it reminds me of the old maxim that people learn from history that they learn nothing from history.

While this may well work for republicans and their wealthy benefactors in the short run, in the long run, from the American Revolution, to the French Revolution, to the Arab Spring (and just about any other revolution you can think of) the quickest way to provoke a violent and ultimately successful revolution is to take away a people's voice.

Disenfranchising voters while ramming your unpopular policies down a people's throat is not a recipe for a nation that will survive very long.
