The old lie

Just as bullshit now as it was a hundred years ago

Mike Huckabee and Laura Ingraham took time on a recent show of hers to proclaim how important it was to reopen America, healthcare and science experts be damned, to preserve our way of life.

I'm pretty sure they're more concerned with preserving their way of life because I don't know about you but my way of life is forty years of living paycheck to paycheck and then probably dying much younger than I should have because we lack decent national health insurance like nearly every other advanced nation.

But I tell you what--Huckabee and Ingraham are more than welcome to put on their big boy and big girl pants and truck on down to the movie theater to sell popcorn or the hair salon to give a perm or flip a few burgers so folks can get their free refills.

As for me, they can go fuck themselves--if they want to preserve their way of life they can go right ahead without me.  I'm not dying for two rich assholes.

Hypocrisy, thy name is republicans

There just may be a God after all:

A Texas grand jury has decided not to indict a Houston Planned Parenthood clinic, finding no evidence that the clinic had done anything illegal.  They did, however, decide to indict the two bozos who shot the film purportedly showing the clinic talking about profiting from the sale of unborn fetuses for tampering with government evidence, and one of the suspects for the illegal sale and purchase of human body parts.

Despite the fact that the grand jury found no evidence of wrongdoing, republicans, are absolutely apoplectic, continuing with their lies concerning Planned Parenthood and the selling of fetus parts and defending the two newly indicted defendants.  Apparently, as long as you're pursuing the republican agenda, lying, cheating, and breaking the law are completely okey dokey.

I must have not gotten the memo--I didn't realize that lying, cheating, and breaking the law had become Christian virtues....

Who's fooling who?

President Obama today took some common sense executive actions to close some gun buying loopholes, keep guns out of the hands of criminals, and spend more money on mental health care.  All of which are designed to keep the American people a whit safer.

Republicans, needless to say, are apoplectic, with screams of protecting Americans, protecting the Second Amendment, Obama's going to take our guns away, repealing the executive actions when elected President (good luck with that), ISIS, and even threatening to shut down the Justice Department.  Genius Mike Huckabee said if President Obama was really concerned about American lives, that he would end abortion.  Without explaining, unsurprisingly, that if Huckabee actually cared so much about American lives, why he wasn't calling for an outright ban on guns (30,000 Americans killed every year by guns).

Make no mistake, though, about who actually cares about Americans' safety.  Republican politicians do not give a good goddamn about the American people or their safety and haven't for quite some time.  The only thing they will be protecting is the undue influence of the NRA and the profits of gun manufacturers.

Because deranged people with guns repeating mass killing after mass killing, or another child shot by a stray bullet, or another troubled soul taking his or her life, or the shattered lives of the victims' families really do not much matter to them as long as the NRA keeps filling their campaign chests and the gun manufacturers keep making an extra nickel,

The man in the mirror

Mike Huckabee, this past weekend, told Fox News that President Obama's Iran deal would march the Israeli people "to the door of the oven."   President Obama responded to Huckabee's ignorant comment by saying it would be "ridiculous if it weren't so sad."

President Obama's later excoriation of the republican party was spot on, because it is indeed really sad that Mike Huckabee has zero chance to be our next President but when his charade of a run is over the chickenshit former governors of Arkansas will go back to making millions of dollars as a political pundit and writing really bad books.  Meanwhile, millions of kind and decent working class Americans will continue to struggle financially living paycheck to paycheck if they can pay their bills at all.

Republicans constantly whine about what's wrong with America.  If they really want to know what's wrong with America they should take a good fucking look in the mirror--the fact that it pays to be an asshole is neither a noble nor a particularly proud American concept

Whither Hillary?

Seems the national media is having a hissy fit because Hillary Clinton is choosing at this point in her campaign to talk to regular folks like us instead of famous journalists.

And the problem with this is...?

Leaving aside the fact that it's unlikely the journalist vote is going to sweep Secretary Clinton into the White House, one need only look at the republican Presidential candidates botched responses to see why at this juncture perhaps it's best to stick to everyday people.  I mean, Christ, republicans have already seen Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio fall all over themselves to appease their base while denying what's obvious to those of us who aren't a few slices short of a full loaf of bread--the Iraq War was a disaster from beginning to end.  We've also seen the spectacle of Mike Huckabee trying to defend a child molester.

Frankly, I think it's a fine piece of strategy to avoid the chickenshit circus that is the beltway media while earning her props from the citizens who will have the most to do with the success of  a Hillary Clinton Presidency.

And it's just another contrast between the competency of the Democrats and the nincompoopery that is ingrained in the republican party.

Huckabee Hound

Mike Huckabee, the surprise winner of Iowa's 2008 Caucus and wise man for not running in 2012 (it's hard to beat an incumbent), has become the latest to hop on the Bozo Bus that is the republican race for the Presidential nomination for 2016.  Huckabee, a pastor and former governor of Arkansas, is hoping to ride his evangelical cred and governing experience to the nomination....

Not so fast there, Mike.  Huckabee has a penchant for saying really dumb things, so together with Dr. Ben Carson he should provide much fodder for stand-up comedians and snide columnists until at least next January or so.  In fairness, Huckabee is somewhat of an economic populist (at least until Wall Street and Big Business start writing their checks as per usual for republican candidates) and vowed in his kick-off speech to keep Social Security intact.

Huckabee is unlikely to win the nomination (think climbing Mt. Everest--you might be able to do it, but chances are you never will), but I honestly think if he does that unlike Cruz, Paul, Rubio, Fiorina, and Carson that his loss to Hillary Clinton in the general will only be embarrassing rather than mortifying.

And that's really something for republicans to look forward to, ain't it?

How many more will come forward to plead their case for losing to Secretary Clinton?  Time will tell....

Flat fucking nuts

At an anti-abortion rally yesterday, Ted Cruz had this to say about pro choice supporters:  "...arm-in arm, chanting 'Hail Satan,' embracing the right to take the life of a late-term child."

Thank God no one told him how we prepare for our rallies by ramming studs through our tongues, dyeing our hair black, and hanging nose rings from our septums while we listen to death metal on our headphones.

It's actions such as these (Mike Lee, Mike Huckabee, and Deb Fischer also had the usual whacko comments about us embracing the culture of death, etc., etc.) that make me wish we had our very own Koch Brothers to pay for numerous national ads.

Because more Americans need to see just how insane these people are.

And the winner is...

Wow.

Did you know that we Democrats are only in favor of the government giving out prescriptions to women for birth control because we think women can't control their own libidos?  That's what Mike Huckabee says.

Strange it never dawned on us that men have libidos, too.

Um, maybe not...

Mike Huckabee proclaimed that the Boy Scouts of America's policy of prohibiting gays from joining will  prevent the sexual abuse of boys.

Because, you know, the anti-Gay agenda of the Catholic Church did so much to keep sexually abusive priests away from young men.
