What is this racism of which you speak?

Can we please once and for all end the charade that not all republicans are racists?

In the wake of Iowa Rep. Steve King's tweet in support of comments by Geerts Wilder, a white nationalist from Denmark, which he followed up by saying that white babies are more important to the future of the United States than any other baby of color, the response from republican leaders--or just republicans in general--has been about as loud as a scream in outer space.  The only republican to comment has been Paul Ryan, who gave merely the party line trope that he hoped Rep. King had misspoke knowing full well that King had already stood behind his remarks.

Rep. King continued to ride the crazy train later by claiming that African-Americans and Latinos would be at each other's throats before white folks in America would become a minority.

After a few more years of Donald Trump, my guess is the throats African-Americans and Latinos are going at won't be each others', but more likely the throats of white nationalists like Steve King and his republican enablers.

2016

For all the talk about Steve King's Iowa Freedom Summit last week, the opening salvo in the 2016 battle for the Presidency came today when President Obama proposed his 2016 budget which directly attacks income inequality through increased spending and tax cuts for the middle class and higher taxes for the Richie Rich's of America.

While republicans have had a recent come to Jesus moment with their (faux) overtures on income inequality, there is real doubt that they're going to offer any thing other than their usual and disproven tripe of tax cuts for the wealthy which will trickle down to the rest of us (and we're still waiting for a trickle....).

With this budget proposal, the President has basically forced the republicans to prove whether they really care about the American people of if they're just blowing it out their asses--and given campaign soundbites and commercials galore for Hillary Clinton.

Let's hope she has the good sense to run on it.

How now brown nose?

In a campaign stop for Rep. Steve King this week, Chris Christie said he and King "think alike."

While I don't see Christie getting the republican nomination in 2016, if he did, the only way he wins the general is to present himself as being a somewhat moderate governors from the Northeast (it obviously did not help Mitt Romney, but Christie isn't Richie Rich, Jr. either).  And as he presents himself thusly, how often do you think his opposition, not to mention every liberal blogger from here to Honolulu, is going to bring that quote up?  Steve King is on a plane for republican nutjobs with such luminous doofuses as Michelle Bachmann and Louis Gohmert.

And herein lies the problem for the modern republican party--they are so beholden to their tea party wing that it makes them virtually unelectable on a national stage.

This could be heaven or this could be hell

Rep. Steve King of Iowa said this week that he doesn't believe there will be gay people in heaven.

What's most amazing about this is Rep. King's conviction that he will undoubtedly go to heaven--as if  a supposedly loving God directs St. Peter to have a special line at the Pearly Gates for cruel and hateful people to go straight on through.

If such be the case, I'll take my chances in hell, thanks.

Dunderheads 'r' us

Tonight House republicans passed an immigration bill that could basically be called the "Let's Deport Everyone Who's Not White Bill."  I may not live long enough (from my keypad to God's eyes!) to see another republican in the White House.

And that's what you get when your party's leadership is Tweedledum, Tweedledumber, and Tweedledumbest.

Compare and contrast

After the bombing in Boston which resulted in three deaths and countless injuries...

...on the one hand, we have a group of people we'll politely describe as conservatives coming out with conspiracy theories, questioning the hearts of all Muslims based on, at the time, speculation, the blaming of our immigration policies for the actions of a few, and the usual call for guns, guns, and more guns (because what would have made the situation so much better would be for a bunch of numbnuts to be shooting at anything that goes bump in the night).  Nothing but lunacy, divisiveness, and hatred.

On the other hand...we have the Boston police, the FBI, the ATF, first responders and all the other government workers who were involved, you know the ones conservatives whine about as being overpaid with their tax dollars, and it took them, working as a team, a whole four days to find and kill/capture the suspects.  Man, that Obama is so incompetent.

And what about those mangy Taxachussetts Liberals?  Imagine them staying in their homes all day without whining (or shooting law enforcement because it's all just a plot to get their guns!) so law enforcement could do their jobs, for their own safety, and so the desired end result, the suspects capture, could happen.  And then imagine the gall of those people, after law enforcement had successfully stopped the suspects, coming out of their homes and standing in the streets to cheer and thank those overpaid with our tax dollars law enforcement officials.  And screaming "U.S.A." while waving the American flag.  Man, those Liberals really do hate America.

Which group makes you prouder to be an American?

Thanks republicans!

Thanks to the Antoinettes, in 2010, a year in which Democrats peformed horridly nationwide electorally, we managed to hold on to control of the Senate.

In 2012, a year in which we had to defend twice the seats republicans did, again thanks to the Antoinettes, we still managed to keep control of the Senate.

I keep thinking--especially with the 2014 Senate campaign showing a long row to hoe once again for the Democrats to keep control--that eventually the republicans will wise up and our winning streak will come to a close.

Not so fast bucko....

Seems one Steve King--whackjob extraordinaire--though as yet undeclared, has climbed to the forefront for the republican nomination for the open seat in Iowa in 2014, even though he is already getting his clocked cleaned by the likely Democratic nominee, Bruce Braley.  Rep. Tom Latham yesterday anounced he would not seek the seat, which is bad news for republicans since he actually had a chance to win a seat that could be crucial to their chances of regaining control of the Senate.

It's of little surprise that the republicans are horrible at governing--they can't even run their own fucking party.

And we should be thankful for that every day.
