Today's republican party

When your political party has fallen as far as the republican party has, to a place where your point man for your President's impeachment is a man (though he's not one in any sense of the word), Jim Jordan, who has been credibly accused by two people of enabling years of the sexual abuse of dozens of young men while he was a coach at Ohio State University, it's pretty much time to give the whole pious prudes, God fearing Christians shtick a rest.

From convicted child molester Dennis Hastert, to Roy Moore, to Jim Jordan, to John Engler (he represented Michigan St. in their sexual abuse scandal involving hundreds of young women), to, more than likely, Donald Trump, the republican party has become a cesspool for the perverted.

To be clear:

Socialism?  Better than perverts.

Green New Deal?  Better than perverts.

Open immigration?  Better than perverts.

Raising taxes on the wealthy?  Better than perverts.

Medicare for all?  Better than perverts.

Whatever claim republicans might have one time made to moral superiority to Democrats has pretty much flown right on out the window. 

If republicans can be this spineless in the face of the abuse of children, they are not a party to be trusted with the future of our republic in any way, shape, or form.

Now that Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan has joined Donald Trump, Roy Moore, and Denny Hastert in sharing the stain of pedophilia, maybe it's time to start asking exactly how it is that the republican party became the party of family values?

Once again, the Catholic Church chooses Nazism over the Golden Rule

I've often felt that the three organizations that have done the most damage to ordinary Americans are the republican party, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Catholic Church.  Right on cue, in its never ending quest to prove me right, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops this week announced they "were looking forward to working with President-elect Trump..."

Fucking seriously?

 Though I shouldn't be surprised--it's well documented that the Catholic Church while never openly supporting Hitler or Mussolini (the Church was officially "neutral" in WWII--and a big WTF to that) turned a blind eye to fascism in ways they never did with communism.

Can someone explain to me how groping women is covered by "love thy neighbor as thyself"?  Can someone explain to me how the love of Christ is reflected in calling Mexicans rapists and drug dealers?  Can someone explain to me how hating Muslims is God's work?  Or gays? Or women?

Frankly, it's far past time to call the Catholic Church what it is--the world's most powerful hate group.

In the end, it would help to remind everyone that the Catholic Church, for all its claims to moral superiority, over the course of several decades chose its bottom line and land holdings over children who were raped by its leaders.

And that should be enough to discredit it forever.

The odd wild hair

Every now and again I read a story that's not political that evokes a strong reaction--like Digby, I have no idea if this account is true or not, though I do remember having the same reaction a few years ago when another stranger struck someone's misbehaving child in a Wal-Mart in Georgia.

The thing that amazed me the most though, was that after this man supposedly struck this woman's child because he was wearing a feminine headband, that she didn't open up a can of serious whoop-ass on the idiot.

I mean, I can be the most Gandiesque of bleeding heart Liberals...until someone attacks one of my kids.  Then I could make The Humungus from The Road Warrior look like a model of restraint.

Seriously--the mother fucker would soon be asking St. Peter how exactly is it that he gets to hell.
