Reaping what they've sown

Your vote, your choice

In light of the Supreme Court's recent decision to uphold Texas' abortion ban, three recent polls have shown approval for America's highest court plummeting anywhere from fifteen to seventeen points, with all three polls showing more Americans now disapprove of the Court than approve.

Anyone who doesn't think this is an ill omen for republican chances to take back the Senate and the House in 2022, let alone the White House in 2024, is absolutely living in a fantasy world.

The nine Justices will begin hearing a Mississippi abortion case (Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization) on December 1, 2021, with their decision coming sometime in 2022 before the congressional mid-terms next November.  Given the right wing justices' acquiescence to the Texas ban, it's likely that Roe v. Wade's days are numbered.

And a blue wave in November of 2022 will officially be on the table.

Down and dirty

A win is a win

Michelle Obama has famously noted that when republicans go low, Democrats should go high...and it's past time to admit that in our current political climate that is a losing strategy.  I have the utmost respect for the Obamas (and I thoroughly believe Barack Obama will eventually go down in American history as one of the five greatest Presidents ever), but it could be easily argued that President Obama went high in the Supreme Court battle with republicans over the open Supreme Court seat after Antonin Scalia's death...and made a mistake (perhaps colored by believing Hillary Clinton would win the Presidency) that ordinary Americans will still be suffering from a generation from now.

Tom Sullivan of Digby's Hullabaloo wrote this week (at the risk of losing his progressive credentials) that when it comes to the upcoming midterm elections that if Democrats think they're going to win in 2022 by focusing solely on what they've done for the economy (which will be great) and undoing Donald Trump's executive orders (also great), they are kidding themselves.  He suggested that Democrats should hammer republicans for the insurrection and remind people of exactly what their party attempted to do on January 6th.  I think they should remind voters again and again just what a horrid human being Donald Trump was (there have been a plethora of books recently that have plenty of ammunition) and that republicans have yet to stand up to him.  Republicans should also be excoriated for voting en masse against the Coronavirus Relief Plan, which has helped working class Americans financially more than anything republicans have ever done in our lifetimes.

Sullivan is exactly right--sometimes, you need to punch a redneck.

A republic, if we can keep it

The only way Trump wins:  cheat

If you need any motivation to support and vote for Democratic candidates in the 2022 midterm elections, keep this in mind:  the only way Trump runs again in 2024 is if republicans win control of the U.S.  House of Representatives.  He will not run again and take the chance that he will lose once more to Joe Biden (and he would--for all Trump's talk about getting 74 million votes, there was a reason Joe Biden got 81 million votes:  namely that Trump was a horrible President).  If republicans take control of the House they won't certify the results and will throw the race to Trump, regardless of how bad he gets beat in the 2024 Presidential election.

Any notion people have that republicans will come to their senses and let our democracy survive should be disabused ferociously.  Republicans don't care about America or Americans or solving any of the problems that harm us--they only care about keeping power and if being subservient to an idiot man-child will do it, then they will keep kissing the moron's ass to please the moron assholes who'll vote for him.

Four more years of Donald Trump with republican control of Congress will be the death knell for the United States of America.
