The national media failure, in a snapshot

A real American hero

Snapshot #1:  Tom Perez, chairman of the DNC, this week called Donald Trump's budget "shitty."

Oh, the horrors...

This caused The Washington Post to ask Perez about his choice of words--to which Perez rightly responded that Trump has said far worse.  Which in turn caused CBS' John Dickerson to pen this ludicrous piece decrying the Democrat's use of language and, in a nutshell, said Democrats were no better than Trump if they resorted to expletives.

Snapshot #2:  When speaking before the NRA this past week, Trump referred to the 2020 Presidential election and suggested his opponent could be Elizabeth Warren (we can only hope) whom he referred to as Pocahontas.  This is no different than calling an African-American politician Uncle Remus or Asian-American politician Charlie Chan.  And yet where was the outrage from The Washington Post and John Dickerson?

Completely non-existent.

And to sum up our national media in a word:  shitty.

I have to admit to having been a little lukewarm about new DNC chair Tom Perez (I would have preferred Keith Ellison), but after this weekend he's got me paying just a little more attention to him.  Speaking to a group of activists, Perez said he didn't care if Trump and the GOP were bothered by protesters calling Trump's presidency illegitimate because they "...don't give a shit about people."  And after the GOP replied with its usual  I'm Not the One Who Farted outrage, Perez did not apologize and told another group of activists the very next day exactly the same thing.

Preach it, brother.

Frankly, it should be our slogan for the 2018 elections:  "REPUBLICANS:  THEY DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOU..."

Couldn't do much worse than we did the last couple of mid-term elections.

And that sound you hear is the sound of millions of Democratic bubbles bursting...

Keeping in mind that I'm the guy who predicted Sarah Palin would be the republican Presidential nominee in 2012, and that Hillary Clinton was going to win in a rout, it's hard to see how Donald Trump's speech to Congress last night isn't anything but bad news for Democrats.  Coming on the heels of the uninspired choice of Tom Perez to head the DNC (yes, he's better than Wasserman-
Schulz, but he's not the candidate who is going to fire up the young folks that we're going to so desperately need in 2018 and 2020), Trump seems to have figured out what Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, John McCain, Charles Grassley, and numerous other republicans have known for some time:  you can say the craziest shit imaginable as long as while you're doing it you don't come across as an insane, hateful asshole.  Now it remains to be seen if Trump is capable of doing it consistently, but I'll be mighty surprised if his approval ratings don't improve and Democrats do their usual backpedaling and sell us out as they've done so many times before.

Trump's selling the same bullshit ideas as he had the day before, but as long as he looks rational doing it, the media and most Americans are going to shrug their shoulders and move on.

Labor Secretary Tom Perez noted last week that when it comes to the minimum wage, "we suck."

And when an American worker can work forty hours a week and still live below the poverty level, in a way, yes we do.

But a more truthful statement when it comes to the minimum wage would be "republicans suck."

Because it's not the rest of America's fault that republicans are more content to suck up to the chamber of commerce and big business rather than see that the kids of our workers have food in their bellies.
