Even more abject republican stupidity
Teachers, whose unions are communist and who cannot be trusted to refrain from grooming our children to lives of sexual debauchery and hatred of America and white people, should be better armedhttps://t.co/uxrpewWixJ

A teachable moment
BIG: The nation’s largest teachers union is cancelling its 2022 convention in Dallas \ over new Texas restrictions on voting, abortion and what teachers can teach about racial history. Exclusive via @The74 https://t.co/kJ46AIN07j pic.twitter.com/lS7QpaaWKU

Fast food education
![]() |
| This is the result of shit wages and shit working conditions |
Digby postulates that part and parcel of republicans' war on Critical Race Theory is their continued drive to destroy teachers' unions and turn public education into a network of right wing indoctrination centers (as if the mental defectives who make up the republican base are people the rest of the country wants to emulate...).
What republicans fail to recognize, though, is that the end result of their plan is that America's children would end up getting taught in the same way that our meals gets made in fast food restaurants: badly. While I have no doubt that the Richie Rich's that make up so much of republican leadership think their kids will do just fine in their private schools, once republicans begin slashing teacher pay the amount of folks who will make a career out of teaching will plummet. Just as the best and brightest don't spend four years in college to become a McDonald's manager, neither will they wish to go tens of thousands of dollars into debt to get paid peanuts to teach. And though some of those who make their living teaching today may be imperfect, they're a whole hell of a lot better at teaching children than your average KFC manager.
Within a generation China, Canada, Australia, and most of Europe will have left America's moron children in the dust, and America's influence in the world--as well as our ability to maintain our lifestyle and defend our nation--will be able to be measured with a common twelve inch ruler.
So, yeah, republicans keep that moronic slashing teacher's pay while turning them into robotic mouthpieces fantasy going, but don't ever forget that in the end you're going to wind up with a nation filled with the same MAGA morons whose votes you'll gladly take but whose lives you disdain. Let's face it: if the nitwits that make up your base are the future of American, we're doomed.
And when you employ the least and the dimmest you can guarantee our kids education will look like most fast food sandwiches: a half cooked burger with brown lettuce, a soggy bun, and special sauce splattered all over the wrapper.
Yum.

Look for the union liars

| Amen, brothers and sisters |
In case you haven't heard, the reason for the downfall of American society (at least according to billionaires), including our inability to subdue the COVID-19 pandemic, is teachers' unions. Can you imagine those pesky teachers wanting to make sure they're vaccinated and proper cleaning and safety protocols are put in place in our schools before our students return to in person learning? The horror.
I swear, these fuckers will not be happy until we all have to work with chains around our feet for two dollars an hour.

Hey, let's have the dumbest kids, too!
In Michigan republicans never ending quest to see just how fast they can make folks flee our once bountiful state (e.g., rape insurance for our girls and women, right to work for less, raising taxes on seniors while cutting taxes for corporations and creating zero good jobs, shutting off water for the poor folks in Detroit), their minions in the corporate world are targeting our teacher unions (in wake of right to work for less laws that allow freeloading scum to opt out of paying dues to the union, but still get represented) in order to break them.
Anyone who doesn't believe that the ultimate goal here is to turn teaching into a minimum wage job is an utter fool. One wonders, though, just what these assholes think will be the quality of the teachers educating our children at eight bucks an hour.
And therein lies the rub--they really don't give a shit. They'll pay a few pennies less in taxes, and their kids are in Richie Rich private schools.
It's a win-win for the wealthy elite.

On the merits...
...this idea sucks.
Seems one Ingrid Jacques, an editorial writer for The Detroit News, thinks that merit increases for teachers are just ducky. As is often the case with vapid conservatives, this is an opinion voiced by one who has no personal stake in the matter, and even less experience in the real world. She cites the usual twits--Michigan legislature (currently the laughing stock of the entire nation--vagina, vagina, vagina), the Mackinac Center for Public Policy (conservative think tank based on Fantasy Island for the wealthy in Michigan, notoriously mistaken on fucking everything), and Students First (private education organization most noted for cheating on test scores in D. C. to make themselves look better).
I've spent 30 years in the real world, working for real companies, and there once was a time when merit increases actually did exist. It died off after Numbnuts Reagan's term, but merit pay raises in the corporate world (not including executives who never miss an opportunity to find a reason to give themselves a raise--I farted twice today!--despite their lack of success or profitiability) today have become codespeak for "NO RAISES." Trust me, no matter how well you do in your job, no matter how much you contribute to the bottom line, if you're not an executive, they will find every reason possible to not give you a raise.
Trust me teachers, the same will eventually happen to you, especially since there are enough idiotic voters out there who absolutely think you're overpaid making $50,000 for teaching their increasingly moronic kids. Avoid this deal at all costs!
Ms. Jacques, in a typically republican classless move, concludes what passes for thought in conservative circles by declaring that teachers not interested in merit pay should seek another line of work.
I'd suggest the same for Ms Jacques, considering her reasoning is extremely poor, her research is embarrassingly bad, and she's a miserable writer, but it's a conservative publication, and we all know that conservatives love to reward the incompetent as long as they're either rich or spout the party bullshit.
