False prophets and their enablers

How stupid do you have to be?
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves."  Matthew 7:15

It was beyond pathetic to watch as Rick Perry and Nikki Haley embarrassed themselves this past week trying to stroke Donald Trump's  penis  ego by proclaiming that he has been chosen by God to lead America.

After supposedly sending his only begotten son to be mankind's savior, who instructed his followers to heed the golden rule and to look out for the least among us, why in the fuck would make anyone think that God--if one chooses to believe in such--would decide that what America most needed now was a selfish, greedy, perverted, and cruel idiot for our leader?

For fuck's sake, if there was ever an argument for there being no God, Donald Trump being God's chosen would have to seal the deal.  There is no way in hell any God that stupid could have created such a magnificent universe.

You can't make this shit up, Part II

Of Donald Trump, Rick Perry said this week, "Let no one be mistaken:  Donald Trump's candidacy is a cancer on conservatism, and it must be diagnosed, excised and discarded."

He also said, "I will not go quiet when this cancer on conservatism threatens to metastasize into a movement of mean-spirited politics that will send the Republican Party to the same place it sent the Whig Party in 1854:  the graveyard."

Concerning the first quote, if republicans excise the wing of their party that Donald Trump appeals to they are going to end up (as Perry notes in the second quote) in the graveyard.  That's the base of their party, for Christ's sake--they'd be a shell of a political party without them.

As to the second quote, Perry acts as if "mean-spirited politics" from republicans is something that began with Donald Trump.  Where the hell has Perry been the last thirty-five years?  Try these incendiary republicans:  Ronald Reagan, Newt Gingrich, Tom DeLay, Dick Armey, Dick Cheney, George W. Bush, Steve King, Ted Cruz, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Laura Schlesinger--and that's just off the top of my head.

One supposes that  "mean-spirited politics" only matters when it makes republicans a national laughingstock.

Perry makes it an even ten

Half-wit former republican Governor of Texas Rick Perry became the tenth announced republican candidate for the Presidency in 2016--which seemed to elicit plenty of chuckles from pundits far and wide.

Perry is best known for threatening to secede from the union, not being able to remember the three--count 'em, a whole three--government agencies he was going to abolish upon his ascendancy to the Presidency in January of 2013 during a republican debate, and for donning a pair of black-rimmed eyeglasses in the hope that we'd forget that he was an idiot (and good luck with that).  Perry also thinks just about everything is unconstitutional (Social Security, Medicare, Clean Air Laws, Federal Health Programs) and is the only candidate in either party who is currently under indictment (for abuse of office).

And yet all you really need to know is that the last time we elected a half-wit Governor of Texas to the Presidency we ended up with the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history, two costly and failed wars, an incompetent response to a hurricane that left over a thousand dead and thousands more homeless, and the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression.

Pretty sure if by some miracle Perry actually wins the republican nomination the Democratic Party would spend the last few months of the campaign reminding Americans again and again that just because your head can fit into a ten gallon hat doesn't mean you have brains to match.

Perry the platypus

Rick Perry, this week:  "Running for the presidency's not an IQ test."

And what a good thing for Mr. Perry that is--his already infintesimal chances for being our next President would be completely fucking non-existent.

And to think we get to enjoy such pearls of wisdom from republican pretenders for the next 23 months....

Married...with an idiot

Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Texas Lt. Gov. and republican gubenatorial candidate Greg Abott.  Sen. Dean Heller of Nevada.  Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky.  Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.

Know what these men all have in common?  After championing deadbeat Nevada Rancher Cliven Bundy, they all spent a few moments this week choking on their own saliva after hearing Mr. Bundy prove himself to be your garden variety republican racist, on film no less.  And just to put a cherry on top, Mr. Bundy did it a second time, invoking Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks to boot.

I want to tell you one more thing I know about the republicans--there's nothing in the world of politics more enjoyable than watching them take a well-deserved round of bitch slaps from everybody for being foolish enough to trust another in a long line of goobers in a blatant attempt to score political points.

Schadenfreude deluxe!

How low can it go?

Rick Perry, one of many republicans with delusions of one day being President (and that's what it will always remain--a delusion), has taken a bold stance on the minimum wage saying that it should be left up to every business to decide for itself what to pay its workers.

While the statement's sheer cravenness is enough to conjure images of Perry on youtube kissing the lily white asses of the Koch brothers, the real world effect would be...even more Americans in poverty and even more children in hunger.

For fuck's sake--there's a reason we've set a minimum wage:  corporations can't be trusted.  Period.  If they could put us in slavery and pay us nothing, they would.

Letting companies decide what the minimum they'll pay is on par with letting prison inmates decide if they should have a gun.

Getting better all the time

For a while there, between the chained CPI bullshit that President Obama has bought into, Democrats voting to cut food stamps,  not being able to get enough Democrats to sign on to filibuster reform, and the general failure of our party to do much of anything that supports working families, I was beginning to think 2014 was shaping up to be as disastrous electorally as was 2010.

But lo and behold, up to the plate stepped the republican party--the gift that keeps on giving.

Following their disaster in Texas with its misinformed choice haters, special sessions to pass what cannot pass in the regular session, and flat out cheating to pass historically harsh restrictions to abortion, the geniuses next used an end around in Ohio by passing more historically harsh restrictions to abortion by using budget gimmicks, and then had the good sense to have Gov. John Kasich sign the bill surrounded by nothing but old white men (Kasich is also giving our own Gov. Gutless, Rick Snyder, a run for his money for the most gutless governor in the nation by signing the bill and then running and tucking tail rather than answer any questions regarding it).  For good measure, republicans in North Carolina also tried an end around by inserting historically harsh abortion restrictions into a bill on Sharia law, since the two have so much in common, and Wisconsin's Scott Walker this week became the umpteenth republican leader to think that the U.S. Government has no right to keep guns out of the hands of psychopaths but every right to stick medical instruments into womens' vaginas.

Apparently the sole guideline for being a republican consultant is to have no brain whatsoever.  Because nothing helps win elections by pissing off even more voters who historically vote in the biggest numbers and against your party.  Thanks, guys!

Not to worry, though, as they also have a brilliant plan for the Presidency in 2016.  It's to paint Hillary Clinton as old.

Man, mocking the only voting bloc--seniors--that votes for you is some kind of strategy.

Another nail in the republican party coffin

If there's a political organization that is more tone deaf  than the republican party (not that I care--their loss is our gain) I'm not sure history has ever recorded it.

The filibuster by Wendy Davis, a state senator in Texas, against the republican controlled legislature's attempt to pass a harshly restrictive abortion bill could not have possible put the republicans in a harsher light had the script been written by Gloria Steinem.

The anti-abortion bill couldn't pass in a regular legislative session, so Gov. Rick Perry calls a special session.  Courageous woman filibusters for almost thirteen hours and is finally only able to be stopped by bullshit technicalities.  Men call for a vote which is righteously yelled down by female pro-choice supporters.  Republicans claim vote was done before midnight deadline, only it wasn't.  They then change times of vote in the computer.  Finally realize they are completely fucked, and numbnuts governor calls for another special session beginning July 1st.

Women, Latinos, and young people are all overwhelmingly in favor of a woman's right to choose, republicans get decimated in elections by all three groups, and all yesterday did was further entrench them in the Democratic Party.

It takes a lifetime to create old, white men--and best of luck to republicans with that strategy.

Be careful what you wish for

In the same week that the idiot Governor of Texas, Rick Perry, decides to stick it to that nasty old federal government by letting 1.5 million of his citizens remain without healthcare (and cost the rest of us money because we're paying even more for their emergency care), a number of reports show that a) the insurance rates that republicans claimed would go through the roof didn't even come close in California (or Oregon for that matter), b) that the benefits to Californians (and other states who choose to participate in the health care exchanges) will be multitudinous, c) that Medicare's outlook is improving thanks to Obamacare, and d) young adults and hospitals saved $147 million in 2011 thanks to Obamacare.

You have to wonder at what point citizens (not to mention businesses and health care providers) of states whose "leadership" decided to forgo the benefits of Obamacare to score political points with republicans will look at the healthier (and with more cash in their pockets due to more economical health care rates) citizens of states who chose the Medicaid expansion and to take advantage of the many benefits of Obamacare and realize they were sold a bill of goods that left them sicker and poorer.

And how much easier it's going to make the necessary expansions to Obamacare sail through.

Out of the inkwell

There's an old circus clown act where a Volkswagen drives into the big tent and one clown after another comes pouring out of the car--a seemingly endless parade of white faces with big red noses.

This would also be an apt description of the race for the republican nominee to be the next President of the United States.  Note the following:

Abt/SRBI for Washington Post/ABC News. 10/31-11/3. Registered voters (Republicans and GOP-leaning independents). MoE ±5.5% (9/29-10/2 results):

Mitt Romney: 24 (25)
Herman Cain: 23 (17)
Rick Perry: 13 (17)
Newt Gingrich: 12 (9)
Ron Paul: 8 (9)
Michele Bachmann: 4 (7)
Rick Santorum: 1 (2)
Jon Huntsman: 1 (1)

A few months back, Michelle Bachmann was the queen of the republican prom.  Unfortunately, it turned out she was a nutjob.  Then Rick Perry was the shit's favorite turd.  Unfortunately, it turned out he had absolutely no talent for even faking that he was qualified to be President.  Now the great white hope (so to speak) is one Herman Cain.  Unfortunately, it turns out he is a pervert...oh, wait--it's okay in republican circles to be a perv (unless your name is Bill Clinton) as Mr. Cain's numbers have gone up despite the three sexual harassment complaints against him as reported this week.

God only knows who will be the next saviour, but frankly the only candidate who can pass the emaycee test (who has a better chance to be President--me or "insert name of republican candidate"?) is Mitt Romney.  For fuck's sake--I'm not even running and I'm pretty damn certain 7 out of their 8 current candidates have the same odds of being President as I do:  a trillion to one.  And after John Kerry flip flopped his way to failure in 2004, you know the Obama team is salivating at facing Mitt Romney.

The upshot of this?  Barack Obama may be the luckiest s.o.b. on the planet.  Despite a punch drunk economy and a less than enthusiastic Democratic base, he still stands a decent chance of being re-elected.  And if the republicans elect anyone other than "always around 25%" Mitt, he'll probably win re-election in a landslide.

And we'll get to spend four more years bitching about him.

Really?

President Obama has to be the luckiest politician this side of Ronald Reagan.  While his job approval numbers keep on falling, he's doing nothing to please the people he needs for money and GOTV, and the economy continues to suffer, the Republican Presidential contenders continue their chronic tone deafness--at a time when Americans as a whole have pretty much had it with corporations--to echo Mitt Romney's statement that corporations, my friend, are people.

And that's not even to mention that the three most likely candidates he'll face in the fall of 2012 are a liar (Bachmann), a nitwit (Perry), and a robot (Romney).  To quote Mr. Tom Petty, I guess it is true that "even the losers get lucky sometimes."

The gift that keeps on giving

I'm not quite as optimistic as Mr. Atkins concerning 2012 (Obama wins, we take back the House, lose the Senate), but even I have to admit when they're best candidate gives us a tailor made attack ad ("Corporations are people, my friend!" running on a loop forever in October of 2012) you have to figure Obama's chances may not be all that bad.

And Boehner's claim that he got 98% of what he wanted in the debt ceiling deal will probably also look good in an ad in October 2012, because, barring a miracle, the economy is still going to suck and Boehner now owns 98% of suck.

Of course, there's always 2012's Fred Thompson--Governor Rick Perry, who will supposedly announce his candidacy in a few days.  He is supposed to be the republican's newest great hope, but I have a hard time believing the American people (not the same as the republican party) will forget what happened the last time we elected a nitwit from Texas.
