A true American patriot

In the wake of Roger Goodell, Commissioner of the NFL, apologizing to players in lieu of Patrick Mahomes powerful video questioning the NFL on its policies toward protests against racism, Donald Trump decided to send a tweet Sunday night questioning whether or not the NFL would backtrack on its policy against kneeling.  Considering that Trump's approval numbers are plummeting and he's losing badly to Joe Biden, this is little more than Trump trying to find anything that will help him with his racist base and prop up his numbers at least a little.  He hopes that blaming the black folks for disrespecting the flag and our country will lead him to another victory come November.

Good luck with that--my guess is this fall we're going to see a whole hell of a lot more players than we did last time taking a knee.  And that many of them will be among the most high profile players in the league.  With approval for Black Lives Matter easily outdistancing Trump's approval for the job he's doing, it's hard to see that Trump's tweets this fall won't fall on mostly deaf ears and will only add fuel to the fire for those of us who would crawl over broken glass to send his ass back home this November.

But by all means, please proceed.

Downright dainty

The protesting is not new--nor unwarranted

In light of Nike's decision to put Colin Kaepernick at the forefront of its thirtieth anniversary campaign, Trump supporters are absolutely losing their shit (possibly because it's not their kids cops are killing with the government's blessing) and burning or ripping up perfectly good shoes and clothing because nothing hurts Nike more than idiots burning their own clothing and footwear that they themselves paid good money for.

And all of this because Kaepernick took a knee during the playing of the national anthem to protest the abysmal treatment of African-Americans in this country.

A protest guaranteed by the first amendment of our constitution.

And yet for all their symbolic idiocy, they should consider themselves lucky--unless things change, a day is coming when taking a knee during the national anthem is going to seem downright dainty.

A profile in courage

The power of one...

Amidst the daily deluge of downers from the Trump Administration, every now and again a scintilla of hope shimmers through.  In reaction to a number of the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles deciding they weren't interested in kowtowing to a racist asshole, Donald Trump rescinded their invitation to the White House and staged a fake rally of Philadelphia Eagles fans (actually White House interns, aka future Nazis) in support of our National Anthem.  But if you'll look closely at the photo above, one man took a knee...on the fucking White House lawn.

Know that as long as there is even one of us willing to fight for what's right, the bastards can never defeat us.

Cool video

Like a good neighbor...

During the pregame festivities before the recent Toronto Maple Leafs game against Nashville, the microphone blew out in the middle of the  "Star Spangled Banner"--check out the Toronto fans reaction:

They sang it loud and proud.  I'd be willing to bet you couldn't fill an arena in America out of all 300+ million of us with Americans who knew the words to "O Canada" let alone could sing it with vigor.

Probably the National Health Insurance that makes them smarter....
