The NSA spying revelations really aren't my forte (not that anything else I write about is, but you know...) but I found it quite interesting that Mike Rogers (R-MI)--my very own Congressman--Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and Rep. Mike McCaul (R-TX) all were on Meet the Press and This Week with George Stephanopoulos this past weekend pushing the idea that Edward Snowden must have had help with the NSA leaks (most notably, from Russia) without producing a single shred of evidence to prove it so (in fairness to Feinstein, she at least admitted as much).
Both David Gregory and Stephanopoulos questioned the allegations--which to me seem of a bombshell type nature--but both seemed quite content to let the matter drop without pushing much harder than a dried leaf does against the wind.
What...the...fuck? Really? Three members of Congress make wild ass claims about foreign governments helping to leak our very own NSA information on national TV news shows and not one of these journalists jumps up and down like a fucking monkey screaming "Proof! Proof! Proof!"
Thank God these fuckers weren't around during Watergate--Nixon probably would have been able to circumvent the Constitution and win a third term as President.

My idiot congressman
Over the course of the last several years, I've sent my republican Congressman here in Michigan, Mike Rogers, numerous letters--all of which are diametrically opposed to Rep. Rogers worldview. For whatever reason, this always triggers the sending of one of Rep. Rogers newsletters, which I always immediately unsubscribe to. You would think, after a number of years of receiving letters from me opposed to his political views, and numerous times of unsubscribing, Rep. Rogers would get the hint that I couldn't give a fuck less what he thinks. Not so. (Though in fairness, I know the odds of one of my letters changing Rep. Rogers' opinion is zero, and I only send the letters to -a- let my opinion be known, and -b- be a pain in the ass--both of which are my rights as an American citizen.)
All of which makes it especially galling to hear Rep. Rogers and his fellow republicans in Congress blather on and on about how they're standing up for what the American people want. Rep. Rogers doesn't care any more for what the American people want than he does for their well-being. He's a trained monkey, spouting republican talking points--most of which, like that the President won't negotiate (Negotiate over what, you fucking moron? The President and his fellow Democrats are asking for nothing.) are lies.
It's endemic to Rep. Rogers whole party--as my zip code splits two congressional districts, I occasionally have letters sent to Kerry Bentivolio (only elected because he's in a gerrymandered district--this mother fucker is so batshit insane he couldn't get a fucking job as a cashier at any legitimate business, but fucking republicans elected him) and each of the last two times I have elected not to have a response sent because a) I don't give a shit what his reasoning for fucking over the American people is, and b) figuring I'd save his staffers from doing even more pointless work than they already do, and yet, both times I've received a response. What, his people think I'm going to have a "bonk! should have had a V8!" moment based on responses riddled with inaccuracies (I'm being kind--they're out and out lies)?
Frankly, I've had it--these republicans are not only liars, they're flat out incompetent.
And I can sum up my response to their return letters in three words: Fuck you, fellas.
Peace,
emaycee

Oxymorons
So my congressman, Mike Rogers, R-MI, has been named to head the House committee on Intelligence. Considering that every word he utters is like watching an episode of "Idiots on Parade," isn't Mike Rogers, Intelligence Committe Head, a bit of an oxymoron?
Yeah, it's a cheap shot, but a well-deserved cheap shot.

Odds and Sods
Pete Townshend turned 65 last week--sixty-fucking-five! Man, am I getting old....
An interesting couple of weeks:
Apparently, the rumors of our demise are a bit premature...seems we won a congressional race in PA we weren't supposed to win, Sestak took out Specter, and Halter has forced Lincoln into a runoff. Hell, even the MSM had an inkling on this one--seems the polls they are-a-changin'. I have no doubts we'll lose seats, but it may (key word) not be as bad as once thought. I've always had difficulty accepting the narrative of deep Dem losses this November (though I know it could happen)--people's memories aren't that short (Bush, Repugs 2002-2006), and you have to give voters something to vote for that isn't merely whining (see also, Tea Party). Plus, Rand Paul (and maybe Sue Lowden in NV) seems to be the gift that keeps on giving--there's no way we should win in KY (or Nevada for that matter), and yet we might. Good times....
Seems the not so great state of Tex-ass(holes) has gone ahead with their plans to rewrite American History. Nice pieces by tristero and the King laying out just how ridiculous this all is--if ever, of late, there has been a what the fuck? moment, this is a what the fuck? moment. Thank God for state assemblyman like Leland Yee (D-SF, what a surprise, still the gutsiest liberals in America)--let's hope there's plenty more like him.
There's so much wrong with this piece that I would almost swear it was written by an internet company lobbyist (funny, too, that I received an e-mail from my congressman, the corporate loving, working folks hating, Republican, Mike Rogers, that echoed many of the same points). Business knows best? Really? Kind of like the banks and their derivatives? Kind of like the auto companies and their failures to modernize? I also like the way they refer to the "'net netrality' regime." Regime? Please let's exaggerate when in desperation. The FCC should step in as soon as possible and Congress should let them. If not, we're going to end up with internet service providers who are as inept as our cable providers. Piss poor service, exorbitant rates, and less choice--by all means, yes, let's let the internet service providers reign. Can't fucking wait.
From a recent letter to the editor in the News: "Tea Party members are much closer to the center of the political spectrum than those extremists who seek to discredit them." Wow--who knew? I mean, I had absolutely no idea that those in the political center of this country carried posters of President Obama looking like Hitler, or that used the n-word, or thought Sarah Palin was a brilliant thinker. Please--this is just another in a long line of bullshit letters to the editor that have popped up of late linking the movement to Moms, blacks (must have got the one African-American in Michigan that is stupid enough to buy their bullshit to send that one), or Democrats (only in an alternate universe) that are little more than propaganda to make the Tea Party look more mainstream (think "compassionate conservatism"). Editorial boards may be that ignorant, but the rest of us are not: they are like a sledgehammer to subtlety, the radical right wing. Period.
Holy shit--Wonk almost gets one right. Too bad he had to throw in the usual bullshit "While Democrats are hardly blameless for this ongoing mess, which is manifest in both Washington and Lansing...." How so? Just once I'd like to see some pundit point out exactly--with facts, not Republican talking points--how Dems are responsible for the poisoned atmosphere. What, because we won and Republicans hate democracy? We water down bills, we try to get them to the table, and still they vote no. Is calling them on being the party of no unfair? Hardly--sometimes the truth hurts. The one thing that amazes me is that approximately thirty percent of Americans and Michiganders still believe their bullshit.
Too Little, Too Late, Dept.: This from the campaign brochure that Mike Rogers sent to my home (note to Mr. Rogers--save the taxpayers money and skip my house next time--if the Virgin Mary came down and told me herself that you were right, I still wouldn't believe your bullshit)..."I know times are tough (obviousman strikes again!). The last thing we need is an out-of-control Washington, DC spending money we don't have and sending the bill to our kids and grandkids...." Right...Democrat spending on jobs and healthcare bad, Republican spending on misguided wars and tax cuts for the wealthy good. Because that worked out so well the first time around, Mr. Rogers. Save it for the disciples--those of us with an ounce of sense don't believe you. And I have to live with this pinhead at least until he retires (he's not losing unless he pulls a Souder--and even that wouldn't hurt that much since he's single, last I heard).
Speaking of Souder, it couldn't happen to a nicer fellah. I spent one hellaciously bad year of my life in Fort Wayne, being represented by this buffoon. Good bye and good riddance. A question (and admittedly this is somewhat childish): how in the hell does a guy who looks like the closest he should get to nookie is internet porn end up bedding a pretty darn attractive woman like his mistress? Must be something to that whole power thing....
Final note: the only way the Dems win the governor's race in our beautiful Michigan this year is if a week before the race the Republican nominee is caught, on film, molesting a child. And then just maybe. Therefore, if we're going to get our ass kicked anyway, can we at least give ourselves a chance to not get completely embarrased and nominate the real Democrat, Ving Bernero, and send the Republican lite Andy Dillon home? Thank you....

emaycee

Christ, you know it ain't easy...
So many pinheads, so little time...
First, there's this column by Michael Barone--other than proving that, once again, Conservidiots suck at math (any way you slice it, 54% to 40% is an ass kicking), Mr. Barone is hyping, as Conservidiots are wont to do, what isn't there. The results from the poll are here. Yes, the Dems numbers have slipped, but any way you slice it, millennials favor strong government and are much more liberal than than their elders. Mr. Barone can slice it any way he wants, but the odds of the millennial generation (or a majority thereof) ending up like the tea baggers is absolutely zero. And as for fewer jobs...where is the private sector on this? We keep hearing about how the government can't create jobs, but I don't see the private sector doing shit right now to create jobs. Without the stimulus, we'd be in a full fledged Depression. And my guess is that as the economy turns around, those millennial numbers go up. *ASIDE* I think it's very disingenuous of the Detroit News to call Mr. Barone a political analyst for the Washington Examiner (uh...I'd never heard of the newspaper until this op-ed appeared--if you check out their website you'll see a Republican Who's Who of columnists) and not mention that he's also an analyst for the American Enterprise Institute--in other words, a paid shill for a Conservative funded think tank.
Second...uh, this one is completely beyond me, but it seems there are those among us who are missing George W. Bush. You can even buy mugs, hats, and t-shirts with his goofy face and the words "Miss me yet?" To answer that as succinctly as possible, I miss GWB about as much as I'd miss having a six inch needle rammed through my testicles. Think Progress sums up this kind of bullshit pretty well.
This is my Congressman (boo, hiss). This is my Congressman on drugs: "It's no wonder that Americans all across the country are disgusted with Congress. I've never seen such lyin' and cheatin' and stealin' going on to get a bill [Healthcare reform] passed." I hate to be pissin' and moanin' (in case you're wondering, yes, I do hate phony populism) but Rep. Rogers sure has a short memory. Unless of course, he accidentally said "get a bill passed" and actually meant "get a bill defeated." In that case, he'd be correct for the first time in his career as a Congressman.
What is it about Conservidiots and defending child molesters? As if it's not bad enough they're defending the Catholic church in the indefensible (just google Bill Donohue), but now Rush Dimbulb is defending the Branch Davidians. While I don't think blowing child molesters up is the best way to handle the situation, if my choice is between the government and a child molester, I'm going with the government 100% of the time. You'd think 100% of Americans would agree. This shows how far the Conservative movement has fallen in this country: forget the fact that Koresh and his cult could have eschewed raping children, could have surrendered and taken the matter to court (where any number of excellent attorneys would have defended them)--it's the government's fault. In a word: Horseshit.
Can we please stop calling Timothy McVeigh and the Huttatree "troubled" or a "militia" and call them what they should be called: TERRORISTS.
Peace,
emaycee
