Welcome to the madhouse

It's a madhouse, a madhouse!

While I'm one of the few Liberals/Democrats/Progressives who was not disappointed by yesterday's Electoral College charade (I think choosing Hillary Clinton would have set a dangerous precedent, and don't forget that in 2004 had 80,000 voters flipped in Ohio that John Kerry--mercifully--would have been President despite losing the popular vote by better than 3 million votes)--though it might have been fun to watch millions of republicans' heads implode--I still think we are in extremely dangerous times and are being led by a man whose grasp on reality is tenuous at best.  To wit:

Alex Jones, the batshit insane right wing radio host, this week said that Hillary Clinton has personally murdered, chopped up, and raped children.  And while you're digesting that utter lunacy, keep in mind that after his electoral college victory, Trump personally called and thanked Jones and vowed to reappear on his radio show.

I'm not sure if I should be completely embarrassed to have such an idiot as our leader or utterly terrified that such an idiot has his finger on the nuclear trigger.

Either way, it's going to be a very fucking long four years.

Fuck Donald Trump,

Losing

I'd be hard pressed to name a Presidential election in which I was more disappointed than the 2004 election in which George W. Bush edged out John Kerry.  When I went to bed on election night, Kerry's chances were slim and none.  When I awoke on Wednesday, it was over, and George W. Bush had won re-election.  I just couldn't believe that the American people could re-elect a man who had proven himself such a colossal failure (little did I realize how much worse he would get!).  I remember talking on the phone to both of my older children and hearing their downcast and dejected voices, and just having an overwhelming sense of doom.  But, for whatever reason, when I woke up on Thursday morning, the first thought I had was, "Fuck it--time to get started on the next election."

I mustn't have been alone--in two years we Democrats had taken back both houses of Congress, and in 2008 we won the White House in a landslide, both by convincing a majority of voters that we had better ideas and solutions and could fix what republicans had done to America.  And we did.

Compare and contrast that with today's republicans, whose reaction to Donald Trump's impending defeat is to scream about rigged elections and threaten peaceful citizens with talk of armed insurrection.

Who do you suppose the real Americans are and which ones do you suppose are just the posers?

Base comments

In a shocking turn, Donald Trump made headlines again this weekend with his controversial comment concerning John McCain not being a war hero because he was captured.

Let's leave aside the facts that a) it's Donald Trump, for Christ's sake, and b) any republican acting outraged is guilty of of rank hypocrisy in light of their band-aid stunt with regard to John Kerry's war record at their 2004 convention (one of the most heinous acts I've seen republicans commit, and that's really saying something because they specialize in heinous acts), Trump's comments concerning McCain's war record are his modus operandi thus far in the campaign.  He is only trying to appeal to the republican base, and the republican base absolutely hates John McCain.  McCain is and always has been a moderate on immigration, his name is front and center in the McCain-Feingold Act, which tried to reform campaign finance back in the days before Citizen's United made corporations into people, and worst of all his half-assed campaign put the black guy in the White House.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if his poll numbers went up in lieu of these comments.  It's not enough for republicans to have their party members just be republicans--you have to be a racist, human hating, corporation loving, science hating imbecile or you're just not good enough to be one of them.

Eight years of stupid was enough, thanks

“You don’t have to be the world’s policeman, but we have to be the world’s leader — and there’s a huge difference,” Bush said. “This guy — this president and Secretary Clinton and Secretary Kerry – when someone disagrees with their nuanced approach, where it’s all kind of so sophisticated it makes no sense. You know what I’m saying — big-syllable words and lots of fancy conferences and meetings — but we’re not leading, that creates chaos, it creates a more dangerous world.”

Because the stupid his big brother gave us with the debacles in Iraq and Afghanistan worked so well--sticking us in two quagmires and taking away much needed economic resources for a whole hell of a lot of nothing.  "Stupid is as stupid does" works fine as a line in a movie, but as a basis for U.S. foreign policy?  Not so much.

Good to see, though, that Jeb! is continuing to do well in his quest to run a campaign with more spoken gaffes than Willard "47%" Romney.  Jeb! is well on his way....

Just do it, Part II

Speaking of republicans' eyes popping out of their fucking heads--segues are for amateurs--wouldn't it be a whole lotta fun if Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick would appoint Barney Frank to fill John Kerry's Senate seat (provided Kerry is confirmed as Secretary of State) until the results of the special election  to replace him are certified?

Imagine Alan Grayson with wit and nothing to lose--more good times.
