The persistence of selective memory

The republican national convention--a veritable smorgasbord of blog posts...

Funny, don't you think, what with republicans screaming incessantly at their convention this week to lock up Hillary Clinton in jail on trumped up (so to speak) charges, how they forget their very own President, one George W. Bush, lied America into a war with Iraq that has thus far killed over 4000 Americans, bankrupted the country with its outlandish expense, and bankrupted us morally with its ill-advised torture campaign which in turn led to the inception of ISIS.  Bush the Lesser is most certainly guilty of war crimes--where's the party of law and order when it comes to very real crimes?

The hypocrisy is staggering.

Frankly, if it's good for the goose, it's most certainly good for the gander.

Where's the love?

You'll often hear republicans say they're going to Washington or their respective state capital to do the work of the American people.  And God knows they control both houses of Congress at the national level and a vast majority at the state level.

I mention this because I read a piece this week about how wage theft has become an epidemic in America, and I think we can all agree that if an employer tells you they'll pay you X amount of dollars for your time that they'll actually pay you X amount of dollars for your time.  Or if they ask you to work eight hours in a day and you work those eight hours, they'll pay you eight hours in wages.  But in many workplaces this isn't happening.

Has anybody heard of any republicans starting committees, at either the state or national level, to look into wage theft?  I mean they seem to have all kinds of committees for defunding Planned Parenthood, or repealing Obamacare, or about Benghazi, or to get concealed carry laws passed--wouldn't you think people getting paid the wages they've earned would be important, too?  Wouldn't you think it was the work of the American people?

It would be easy--they could start by lifting that Bible they're so fond of and looking up that part about "Thou shalt not steal" and then skewering the rat prick bastard employers who are screwing working class Americans out of their earned wages.

Of course, that would involve actually working for the American people, and not so much their wealthy benefactors in the business world.

Not that republicans would care, but I'm pretty sure there's something in that Bible of theirs about caring for your fellow man, too.

With or without you

Kevin McCarthy, the Speaker of the House in waiting, today made official what anyone with a brain (note:  this does not include the republican base) already knows:  the Benghazi hearings were nothing more than a charade to hurt the campaign of the President of the United States in waiting, Hillary Clinton.

It will be interesting to see if a) the traditional media does its job in giving this admission the front and center attention it deserves, and if so, b) do Hillary Clinton's poll numbers improve?

It will also be interesting to see how republicans react to one of the dumbest declarations in recent American political history being made by the man who along with Mitch McConnell will be the face of their party at least through the end of 2016.

One thing is for sure, though--after McCarthy's boner and yesterday's inept Planned Parenthood hearings, the republican House delegation is going to remain just as incompetent with or without John Boehner.

Who the fuck thought this was a good idea?

How fucking hard up for guests must a network be when they invite a fucking football analyst to one of their shows to discuss...Benghazi?

Leave it to Faux News to invite Hall of Fame quarterback (well deserved) and football analyst (not so much) Terry Bradshaw on to discuss U.S. foreign policy.  Guess what?  He doesn't trust (or like) Hillary Clinton.  One supposes he bases this on the numerous papers he's published on foreign policy over the years....

No shit--I wouldn't bet a plug nickel on any expert analysis Terry Bradshaw gave on a football game and he's been doing that for twenty years.  What the fuck does he know about Benghazi other than that it's the trumped up republican outrage du jour?  Who the fuck would possibly care--outside of the 30% of Americans who are clinically fucking nuts (a.k.a., republicans)?

Swear to God, the lame ass at Faux News who approved this stunt, while going through the human assembly line before birth, when God asked "Brains?" thought He said "Trains?" and must have said, "No, thanks."

Calling their bullshit

Lost in the shuffle this week of Eric Cantor's unprecedented electoral defeat and the implosion of Iraq was the shooting of two police officers (and a bystander) this past weekend in Las Vegas by a pair of "patriots" who have fed at the Tea Party trough and proclaimed the shooting the beginning of a revolution.

Because nothing says revolution quite like shooting a pair of police officers unaware while they're dining on pizza.

I was wondering how the conservative media was going to spin this, but at Fox News, they aren't.  They're just ignoring it.

Because owning up to their mistakes would take moral courage, something conservatives have been sorely lacking for quite some time.

Bullghazi

You've got to get down on your hands and knees and give thanks every single day for the complete and utter tone deafness of the republican party when it comes to campaign issues in 2014.  For some odd ass reason, they still think the American public gives two shits about Benghazi.  In fact, Lindsay Graham is convinced Benghazi will haunt Democrats in 2014.

Um, no.  No, it won't.

Leaving aside the fact that unless it's a truly unpopular war (see Vietnam and Bush the Lesser's two misguided and/or mishandled wars) that Americans don't care about foreign policy, there's also the rather commonsensical notion that much like a policeman in a city like, say, East St. Louis, Il, the more dangerous the place you work, the more likely you are to be killed while doing your job.  I'm not saying it's right, I'm not saying everything shouldn't be done to prevent it, but it's a simple fact:  being in a place where lots of people don't like you merely for who you are is a recipe for potential disaster.  And let's face it, at this point in its history, Benghazi isn't exactly Pleasantville.

I think for average Americans, whose response so far has been a colossal yawn, this is much more obvious than it seems to be to your average republican politician.

Nothing up my sleeve...

I'm having a real hard time getting worked up over the President's scandalous week.  Whether it's Benghazi (as President Obama said, it's brutally obvious there's no there, there), the IRS scandal (really?  these Tea Party groups are basically fronts for the filthy rich to make them richer and the rest of us poorer with the government paying for their additional wealth), or the AP scandal (any politician or reporter screaming about this, who wasn't screaming for a  vote against the Patriot Act, should be bitch slapped) it's just a lot of republican bullshit to deflect us from inconvenient facts,

Chief of which would be this:  a recent study showed that from 2009-2011 the net worth of the richest 7% of Americans increased 28%, while for the lower 93% it decreased 4%.  We're not talking we just got less of it than the ultra-wealthy--we got fucking none of it.

And what republicans would prefer that none of us know is that they have done nothing to help the lower 93% and they never will.  It would be easy to blame it on their utter incompetence in governing, but the plain truth of the matter is that they don't give a fuck about ordinary Americans--they haven't since at least Reagan was in the White House.

Sleight of hand is cute when it's Bullwinkle J. Moose, but not so much when people can't feed their families.

Benghazi? Bullshit!

It's pretty obvious that republican scandalmongering over Benghazi has little to do with their concern over the four Americans killed than it does over their fear that Hillary Clinton will send them to their third straight ass kicking in the Presidential election of 2016.  (Note to republicans:  By all means, please continue with this strategy against the Clintons. The  Whitewater scandal worked so well for you that Bill Clinton won re-election in 1996 by an even bigger margin than his victory in 1992.)

Doesn't it seem a little strange, though, that for all their uproar over the four Americans killed in Benghazi, they sure don't seem to give two shits about the nearly four (3.5 to be exact) Americans killed every hour by guns?

Scratch that--it's republicans, for Christ sake.  As long as it's Americans killing innocent Americans, it's all good.
