Mitt wins, sort of

I had the exact same thought as David Atkins did--when you look at the map of Willard's win in Ohio this past Tuesday, he pretty much won areas that he has no chance in hell of winning come this November (Obama's victory map of Ohio in 2008).  In fact, it pretty much spreads across the country--the only red state without significant Mormon populations (Idaho and Arizona)  that McCain won in 2008 that Willard has managed to win so far is Alaska, with its whopping 3 electoral votes.

It's hard to see how Romney finds a path to victory in November.  President Obama isn't going to lose the blue states he won handily in 2008--and that gives him over 250 electoral votes.  A victory in states where he won close victories--like Ohio or Florida--pushes him over the top.  Hell winning Virginia and New Hampshire puts him over 270 and ensures his re-election.

A lot can happen in eight months, but you have to like the good guys' chances in the Presidential Election an awful lot these days.

So you want to be Veep

As one of the names being bandied about for the republican Vice-Presidential choice for this year's election, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (along with Marco Rubio and to a lesser extent, Chris Christie) is probably watching his ps and qs--how else to explain his sudden withdrawl of support for the Virginia bill which would have required women seeking an abortion to undergo a trans-vaginal ultrasound?

My guess is Democratic ad after Democratic ad showing his disrespect for women wouldn't have played too well this November.

Man's got to protect his chances.

Dream, dream, dream...

Seems the republicans are trying to console themselves over what has been a disaster of a primary season by saying that the protracted battle between their candidates is much like the Obama/Clinton primaries of 2008--and that those battles didn't hurt Obama's chances in the general election.

Hee, hee, ha, ha, chortle, chortle, guffaw, guffaw, guffaw....

I seem to remember the Democrats being extemely excited about their candidates in 2008...pretty sure the republicans are extremely less so here in 2012.  Voter turnout for the Dem candidates in 2008 was phenomenal...not so much for republicans in 2012.

That's the problem when your candidates are Tweedledum and Tweedledee--it's hard for your base to give a shit....

Six Degrees of Boredom

So President Obama had a good night on Tuesday--91% of Americans (not just Democrats, but all Americans) approved of the proposals he put forth in his SOTU.  Christ, it would be hard to get 91% of Americans to agree that the sun coming up each morning is a good thing, let alone political policies.

You know who didn't have a good night?  Republicans.  Wow--if Mitch Daniels is on their supposed A list of candidates who aren't running for President this year, they're in deep shit.  It was a snoozer--Christ, after the speech I'm not sure how Daniels ever got elected (note to self--it was Indiana, aka Moronovia).  He couldn't lead mice to fucking cheese.

Even worse, for all their talk before Obama's speech their response to the President's SOTU was trite--the same tired ideas, the same tired attacks, the same tired complaints.  How in the world do they think anyone can come away inspired from such shit?  Other than bitter old white men, I mean.  There was no hope, no compassion, no passion.  Nothing but whining. 

Pull yourself up by your boot straps indeed.

The smile of a girl

I felt pretty good about Obama's chances in 2012 after reading that Allan Lichtman, who has developed 13 keys that decide who is going to win the Presidential election and whose system has never been wrong since he first debuted it in 1984, said Obama was going to win election easily, having 9 of the 13 keys in his pocket (and needing only six to win reelection).

That was until Obama caved a-fucking-gain to Boehner over the timing of his speech and then his administration did everything it could to make itself look as boob filled as possible.  I can't say it much better than Kos did, but the Obama administation is failing on a massive level to show any sign of life when it comes to dealing with republicans.  A republican debate?  Months before the Iowa caucus, when about 2% of Americans will even be watching...against the most significant problem facing this country, job creation, and the bozos running Obama's administration caved again? 

Despite the title, the grumblings by Hunter in this piece (a little long but well worth the effort) are anything but pointless and its hard to argue with him that there is nothing being done by Democrats to take care of the working class despite it being an issue tailor-made for them, a third party would only ensure further republican gains, and giving money probably is a waste of effort.  Still..if we give up, it's only going to get worse.

Sure would be nice, though, if President Obama and his handlers would occasionally throw us a bone so we could at least have some hope to latch onto.

Seems a short while back I happened to mention that the reports of Sarah Palin's demise were a bit premature--and I'm not the only one. Jake McIntyre of the Daily Kos notes several of the points I, too, noted: the Tea Party's love for her, her ability to raise plenty of money, and the overall weakness of the field. Palin in 2012--Not So Fast Edition

Okay, so Sister Sarah didn't have such a great day--or week...or month. I'm still sticking to my earlier prediction: she will be the republican nominee for President in 2012. Today helps her cause. It does not hurt it at all. There is still no viable republican candidate with her name recognition or ability to raise money. America does not elect the republican nominee for President in 2012--republicans (and the more hard-core the better) do. This furthers her victimhood cred, which is huge with tea partiers who, after their 2010 success, will continue to have massive influence on republican candidates. "Blood libel"? Christ, I had no idea what the phrase meant until it was explained again and again today, and if I don't, I'll guarantee you most of her supporters don't either (admit it--you didn't either!). And don't forget Citizen's United--no doubt there are plenty of wealthy conservative organizations and individuals (the Koch brothers, chamber of commerce, americans for prosperity) that would absolutely love to have their very own Chauncey Gardiner in the White House (again--Reagan being the first). Never underestimate the sheer idiocy and lunacy of America's right-wingers. Peace, emaycee
