You get what you vote for...
This is a quote from our future disastrous Governor: "The most terrifying words you can hear are, 'I'm from Lansing, and I'm here to help.' "
While I understand it's popular these days to blame the government for everything (all evidence to the contrary--it's corporate America who's to blame), what exactly are we to make of this statement? Rick Snyder will soon be living in Lansing--does this mean he doesn't intend to help? If so, why would anyone consider voting for him? Does this mean he's already signalling that he's an incompent boob (what a fucking surprise coming from a republican) and won't be able to help? If so, why would anyone vote for him? Why would the Free Press deign to publish such a quote? To be cute? To continue their quest to appeal to scared, old, white people--the only ones left who may still think their newspaper is relevant?
Can I be the only person in Michigan who finds this quote from a candidate for Governor of Michigan incredibly disturbing?
Just wondering....

Gonna go round in circles...
Yeah, sureee--we're going to lose, but at least we're going to lose on our terms. A world of hurt? Maybe in the short term, but not for long. Nope, I think old Nolan is terrified that Dems are setting themselves up for pretty well for 2012 when the climate for Dems will be better. After two years of seeing that the republicans have no ideas, and don't have their best interests in common, voters just may recall that Virg Bernero and his running mate Brenda Lawrence did indeed run for Main Street and the republicans ran for Wall Street.
And at least be honest--most (smart) Americans do hate business these days, and rightfully so. Bernero and Lawrence are not running on a "Hate Business" platform: they're running on a let's level the playing field and give the working men and women of the great state of Michigan a fair chance. Methinks come 2012 (and 2014) voters may just come to realize the wisdom of that platform.
Remember: republican = liar.

Conservative=Pathetic
Anybody who wants to know what a Rick Snyder governorship (admittedly a foregone conclusion) would look like need only look at this comment from an audience member at a recent Snyder town hall meeting: "It's really nice to have a spouse who shares the last name as the governor." (For those not in the know, Gov. Granholm and her spouse, Dan Mulhern, have different last names.)
Leaving aside the fact that Mr. Snyder hasn't been elected yet (another case for the rampant stupidity that is conservatism), what makes the fucking difference you ignorant and repressive fuckhead? From all accounts, it appears the Governor and her spouse have raised three lovely children and have had nary a marital problem in their years together. Who could possibly care about their choices for last names but a braindead conservative?
Read 'em and weep Michiganders: if ignorance, repression, bigotry, and hatred of anything different are for you, vote for Snyder, because it's what you're going to get.

Nolan's Wet Dream
So Nolan Finley has it all worked out for the Dems in this year's Governor's race...yeah sureee.
Look, I've made it perfectly clear that after the disaster that is Jennifer Granholm, on top of a horrid economy, the Democrats have virtually zero chance this fall in Michigan. But the absolute last thing we need is to take advice from Nolan Finley--Finley has a soft spot for Unions like I have a soft spot for...well, Nolan Finley.
Democrats only have to look at Creigh Deeds running against Bob McDonnell in Virginia in 2009. A real Republican versus Republican-lite. Final score: McDonnell 59%, Deeds 41%. And that is exactly the kind of rout that Andy Dillon gets us this fall. Democrats--and more importantly their union supporters--will stay home. As they should--yes, Andy Dillon will be somewhat better than any of the Republican candidates, but why waste your time--and resources--on a sure loser? Especially one that doesn't share most of your values (e.g., pro-choice, anti-union--what the fuck, he's a Democrat?).
Bernero doesn't have a chance, either, but at least he will fire up the base, get us out to vote, and keep the thing competitive. Losing sucks, but a 52-48, 0r 53-47 defeat keeps the Republicans victory in perspective, and keeps us from the dreaded Republican claim of a "mandate." It also gives us something to run on in 2014, especially after people see the Republican candidate has as much to offer as Republicans always have: cut taxes, um, cut taxes, um, keep the homos away from us, um, Tea Party, um, illegal immigrants suck--you get the drift, and in four years--surprise!!--we find out we're even more fucked than we were under Granholm. No one is much going to interested in Republican-lite in 2014.
My favorite line from Finley's piece is this (of Unions): "They accuse him [Dillon] of being more Republican than Democrat (as if that's a bad thing)." Forgetting the triteness of Finley's little add on, for those of us who do not enjoy fellating the wealthy and corporations, it is indeed a very bad thing.
