In an interview with the feeble conservative site Breitbart this week, Donald Trump threatened to sic the military, the police, and bikers (seriously?) on his opponents should he not get his way.

Let me repeat that:  the President of the United States threatened physical violence against his political opponents this week.

Leaving aside the colossal impotence of our national media (how is this not the most reported story of the week and not being met with complete outrage?), I have four words for Donald Trump:

                                    Go fuck yourself, numbnuts.

My Angry Liberal Mob check must be in the mail

It's all the republicans have got--bullshit 

In a last ditch effort to save their pathetic asses, republicans are running on the platform that only they stand between ordinary Americans and a Paid Angry Mob of Liberals (read blacks, Latinos, Muslims, and women)...which would be merely pitiful if it weren't for a recent study that showed almost two-thirds of the terrorist attacks in America are committed by right wing extremists.

Over the last generation, the biggest threat to Americans has been the republican party--from their fealty to the NRA to their union busting to their racism to their misogyny to their war on the poor to their fellating of the rich to their collusion with Russia, there is no group that has done more damage to Americans than the republican party and the pawns who have cast their votes for them.

Frankly, considering everything they have done to us, they should be relieved we're merely screaming in the streets instead of going absolutely medieval on their asses.

Bernie's in!

There's a part of me that thinks Bernie Sanders could be our next President--an upset in Iowa, a win in his neighboring state of New Hampshire and it's off to the races.  But then reality creeps in--he's trailing Hillary Clinton 62% to 14% and that's a lot of ground to make up in eight months considering that he's going to be vastly outspent (and have trouble raising the kind of money needed anymore to be President), doesn't have nearly the name recognition she has, and doesn't have the campaign infrastructure that Secretary Clinton has.  And while Senator Sanders has his charms, he doesn't have quite the oratorical flourish that President Obama has that is so necessary to rally Democrats with a little "d."

Still, I honestly think he has a better chance than any republican.

First hope:  That Sanders can be the Democratic Party's better self in articulating again and again what we stand for--single payer healthcare, raising the minimum wage, affordable college education for all, more spending on infrastructure, expanding Social Security, ridding our elections of Citizen's United, the middle class and not the billionaire class, and closing the ever-widening gap that is income inequality in America.

Second hope:  That he lasts long enough in the Democratic primaries that I can vote for him when the Michigan Primary comes around next year.  At least then I can know that once in my life I got a chance to vote for a proud and unabashed Liberal for President....

The answer my friend...

There's not one issue that I disagree with in this piece about how the Democratic Party gives Liberals short shrift...other than the call for Liberals to ultimately break with the Democratic Party.

I, too, hold many of the views in this piece about what the Democratic Party actually believes (though, um, the piece never really answers the question)--other than the drivel at the end about how it may eventually take a third party to change the economic agenda of our nation.

Both pieces ostensibly are calls to arms about the inevitability of one Hillary Rodham Clinton to be the 45th President of the United States.  Unlike when President Obama was first elected, I harbor no illusions that Hillary Clinton will be an economic populist and usher in a new era for American's working class.  There's as much chance of that as there is of her nominating me to be her Secretary of Labor (I'd be great though--my platform?  "Don't like unions?  Fuck you!").

What I do know, though, is that Hillary Clinton will not be Ronald Reagan putting a dagger in the heart of organized labor, killing wage growth, pensions, and employee covered healthcare (yes, boys and girls, when I first began working I paid $0.00 for my family's healthcare coverage), and beginning the income inequality downward spiral that hasn't stopped yet.  She also won't be Bush the Lesser who put a dagger in the middle class and killed its net worth, stagnated its wages, and put together a Supreme Court that only the Chamber of Commerce (and Corporate America) could love.

I don't believe anymore that we'll elect a true Liberal Democrat to the Presidency in my lifetime.  But I believe we will in my kids' lifetimes, and that's good enough.

A third party will insure we never do.  And it's better to tread water with a lukewarm Democrat than drown with a republican in the White House.

We're going to get to economic Shangri-La eventually--it's just going to take some time.

Those San Francisco Values

So the folks in Seattle decide to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour, and what do those pesky people in San Francisco do?  Put a question on this November's ballot asking their citizens if they'd like to raise their minimum wage to $15, too.

Yessireee, bub, those San Francisco Values really suck.  Imagine the nerve--paying workers an actual living wage.

Too bad a whole hell of a lot more of us aren't governed by such values.

Cutting through the bullshit

Republicans have done a masterful job through the years of turning truth into falsehood and having it become conventional wisdom. Nolan Finley again tries to use his "gee, shucks, I was there, these people aren't racists, it's all the Democrats fault for pointing out the truth" bullshit once again, and I'm sure it'll fly with the tea partiers, the conservatives, and the traditional media, but somebody has to hold their feet to the fire. I'm proud to be that somebody. The reason I fear this narrative from republicans is because of how well they've used it on gay issues in the past. It isn't about hatred of gays--it's a religious difference, it's standing up for traditional values, it's "love the sinner, hate the sin"--(Aside: what the fuck?). And now it's the same for the racism charges: we just don't like Obama, we have black friends, we work with black people who are really nice, my favorite player in name the sport is black. No. No. No. The first sign is their defensiveness on the issue. The second is their trying to play it down just as they did the gay issues. And finally it's their claim that they're just like everybody else, mainstream Americans. Oh, really? Because I've been on this planet for fifty-one years now and to tell you the truth, I haven't met all that many people who are all that much alike. Sure there are people who like baseball, and the color blue, and watching the leaves change color in the fall, but when you really break it down, people are as diverse as snowflakes--even if they share the same genes, no two of them are exactly alike. So when somebody tells me they're just like everybody else, I get worried, good and worried, that maybe I'm dealing with someone who doesn't watch things very carefully, who doesn't think things through, and who has no business governing a nation as diverse as ours, that leads a world as diverse as ours. Toward the end of his piece, Finley says, "There's an astonishing arrogance in the Democratic response. They can't see that it's the way they governed that has turned off voters." Fortunately, for those of us who use our brains, there's an astounding idiocy in Finley's worldview, and our hope for the future. As many people turned out to vote against Democrats, an equal amount stayed home because they were disappointed or disgusted with the party's leadership on issues concerning them--eventually, those people will return, having already seen through the conservative/tea party/republican bullshit and send them packing. My guess is, old Nolan will never even see it coming. Peace, emaycee
