Isn't this special--the Michigan House republicans are taking a victory lap, patting themselves on the back for following the will of our state's voters.
Because what we all voted for was lower wages, less rights for women to control their own bodies, our teachers, policemen, and firefighters to be treated like a sacks of shit, less taxes for corporations, more taxes for retirees, and the rights of idiots to drive without motorcycle helmets, And don't forget to throw in a corrupt House Speaker who laughs in the face of the democratic process and resorts to cheating to win another seat for his party.
If their goal was to make Michigan as barren of a landscape as North Dakota (and what a goal that is!), they have succeeded remarkably well.
Might I suggest in their next term they change our state slogan from "Pure Michigan" to "Don't Move Here, And If You Already Live Here, Get The Fuck Out While You Still Can!"

They did nothing
All that voter fraud--you know, the black folks in Detroit, the dead Democrats still voting, illegal immigrants. Hell, there must have been what, eight cases out of the millions of votes cast in the last three years. We've got to have us some voter ID laws here in Michigan....
But recruiting a fake candidate? Well, gosh, boys will be boys I guess.
I give the Free Press enough grief that when they've earned kudos they should get them as well. They featured two pieces this week on the Jase Bolger/Roy Schmidt fake candidate recruiting scandal (for which both men, if they had an ounce of integrity, should have resigned and Secretary of State Ruth Johnson--again, if she had an ounce of integrity--would be leading the charge), the first of which calls into question the stopping of the investigation by the detective doing the investigating because he believes records would show that Bolger and Schmidt conspired to commit perjury. The second was the Prosecutor, republican William Forsyth, who shut it down on July 17th giving his fairly lame reasoning as being he thought it was critical that the primary voters have this information. Which considering Schmidt's only challenge was a write-in candidate (write-ins virtually never succeed) and that Schmidt still won...you'd have to believe, in the middle of the summer, had virtually no effect and sounds more or less like covering his ass reasoning.
Not that anything will be done, mind you. Remember, republicans only care about voter fraud when it involves suppressing Democratic votes under false pretenses and subverting Democracy. If republicans are cheating it's a wink and a nod and off they go.
Have I mentioned republicans and gutlessness yet tonight?

An embarrassment of idiots
This is what the republican party has done--just this year--to embarrass the state of Michigan and in all likelihood, make it an even less attractive place either for businesses to locate to or talented individuals to stay in or move to:
1) Challenge a voter initiative to repeal the draconian Emergency Financial Manager law despite its having more than enough signatures to be placed on the ballot this November because they claimed the fucking font size on the petition was wrong.
2) Take away the free speech of two female state congresswomen for having the audacity to say "vagina" as a bill on women's reproductive rights was being debated.
3) Refuse to pass a bill that would build a second bridge to Canada, which would create thousands of jobs, reduce traffic significantly, save businesses and taxpayers money, and make the state an even bigger player in international trade, because the votes of republicans in Lansing have been bought--literally--by billionaire Matty Moroun who stands to be worth a few dollars less if the Ambassador Bridge isn't the only game in town.
As if all that wasn't enough of a black eye for Michigan, now we have Speaker of the House Jase Bolger and newly converted republican Roy Schmidt conspiring to pay a young man to run as a Democrat against turncoat Schmidt to spare the possibility that voters angry with Schmidt's last minute defection might vote his ass out of office. Calls for Bolger's resignation and Schmidt's withdrawl were given the usual republican short shrift by blaming the Democrats (how it's our fault they paid a candidate to run a false campaign is never explained) and Bolger ran a lame ass apology in the Free Press. Frankly, if he were truly sorry he would resign--the offense is that egregious.
But--believe it or not--what Bolger and Schmidt conspired to do is not illegal in Michigan and neither can be charged with any crime. The Free Press--ever vigilant--didn't bother to call for Bolger's resignation, but did run an equally lame ass editorial calling for Secretary of State Ruth Johnson to get just such a law passed to prevent this from happening again (or, at least if they get caught, having such actions be a crime). I'll at least give the Free Press credit for bitch slapping Secretary Johnson over her bogus voter fraud claims and bills to prevent such (out of millions of votes the last three elections, less than ten cases were found, and those were errors rather than fraud), but if they think she's going to lift a finger on this...they're forgetting that unless it involves subverting democracy and disenfranchising Democratic voters, republicans don't give a shit.
I've said it before and I'll say it again--it's going to be hard enough to attract the best and the brightest to Michigan where you freeze your ass of six months of the year (let alone with lousy paying jobs), but embarrassing the state again and again and making us look like some southern idiocracy will be the death knell.
North Dakota, here we come!

Gutless Wonders
Jase Bolger and his merry band of bozos can spin their bullshit all they want, but today's actions in the Michigan House to silence women critics of their anti-women agenda are nothing more than the flailings of desperate cowards. This has nothing to do with the use of the word vagina or supposed temper tantrums. Bolger and his minions have been shoving an agenda down Michigan citizen's throats for the past eighteen months, and with the help of Governor Gutless, Rick Snyder, have set the state back decades. This is merely their version of Officer Brady on "South Park": "Move along--nothing to see here!"
Republicans are already getting their clocks cleaned among women voters, and Bolger and his bozos are gaming the system to keep it from getting any worse. Michigan Democrats have an outside chance to take back the House this November, but if Bolger and his bozos keep this up, our odds are going to get a lot better.

North Dakota it is!
Earlier this year I made the point (more or less) that the choice facing Michigan as a member of the freezing fucking cold belt (those states roughly in Michigan's latitude, all of which are known for their arctic like weather) was whether we wanted to be a middle of the pack state (Wisconsin or Minnesota) or a state that basically no one except those who live there give a fuck about (North Dakota or South Dakota). Looks like Gov. Snyder is making that choice for us...and the winner is...North Fucking Dakota!

Republican bullshit
Seems the MEA, Michigan's largest teacher's union, is sending out feelers for possible teacher strikes. The republican response? One Jase (what the fuck kind of name is Jase? Sounds like some punk ass high schooler) Bolger, republican House Speaker from Marshall, said, "I encourage teachers to send a clear message to the union bosses [Aside: what the mother fucking fuck? Union bosses? What, are we filming a remake of On the Waterfront?] that they are out of control and Michigan's children need to come first."
Seriously. He fucking said Michigan's children need to come first--except of course for that $470 per pupil cut so we can have that 1.8 billion cut in business taxes. And except, just one more time, for the EITC, so we can have that 1.8 billion cut in business taxes.
The sheer hypocrisy of losers like "Jase" is completely beyond me--and what's even scarier is that there are people stupid enough to actually buy his bullshit.
Gov. Snyder and his republican cronies in Michigan's legislature have only one concern--busting Michigan's unions at the expense of the standard of living of Michigan's middle class. So please spare us the Snyder's reinventing Michigan malarkey...it's pure Michigan bullshit.
Peace,
emaycee
